Funny. I knew all about it and saw mentions and promotions leading up to it and during it multiple times. I'm guessing some time zone displacement or something? Maybe some community separations?
In hindsight a smaller canvas might have made it a bit busier, but I’ll tell you what: I’m impressed the effort has been translated over from rPlace. Run this one again in a year or so and I can imagine it being way more popular.
Seems like a good balance-- big enough to not devolve into territory battles, small enough to look full in the end.
The fun thing is seeing what content is missing-- it seems like some fandoms never really migrated to the Fediverse. For me, a lack of Genshin stands out; anything this big usually gets a Fallen Qiqi out of principle.
Never really followed this closely over on reddit ... but it seems like people were happy to draw stuff they found fun ... which is cool! The My LIttle Pony stuff, the Blahaj shark, star trek, diagonal rainbow, Marx, NIN, Arch Linux, a few instance tags ... all up it seems fun and like it was a success! Kudos to the people that put this together!!
I was trying to build our mascot all by myself but never got to 30% at best. Thanks to those who tried helping without any idea at first before completely screwing it up with some three-eyed monstrosity, lmao.
I'm sorry you couldn't finish it, but...for whatever reason, this comment is the funniest thing I've seen and hardest I've laughed at anything all day, so thank you for that!
For those of you who didn't know about this, or did know and can't get enough community pixel art fun, there's an eternal canvas on https://pixelcanvas.io/ (beware: it's completely unmoderated, so prepare to see some unsavory stuff on there.
I ran a fork of pxls for this event and they have their own instance at https://pxls.space, and compared to pixelcanvas.io, is moderated (if that's what you're looking for) :)
Also for anyone unaware yourworldoftext.com and ourworldoftext.com are good canvas sites, the former having a rich history and many years of activity the latter being more featureful and open source
I love it, it's beautiful, I don't mind the white space, everyone had enough to do their own things, it was mostly peaceful, and I'm enjoying seeing my contribution (and being able to actually contribute in the first place).
PlaceDE is a huge community and there's probably a lot of bottled up desire to put the flag since it's socially frowned upon to hoist it outside of football cups.
The non human animal thing is about the confusing attitudes & behaviors humans have towards them, and how they are unequally applied based on arbitrary traits or nebulous concepts. In other words, in consideration of those individuals who desire to not be used or exploited, why everyone currently exploiting them needs to consider changing those attitudes & behaviors.
