Only 34% of Americans and barely over half of Harris supporters believing in Trans rights is pretty fucking depressing.
61% believing the criminal justice system is too lenient? What the fuck?
63% believing the government should ensure health care (including 1/3 of republicans) is encouraging at least.
Over half of both parties (55%D, 76%R) believe the US should be the world's only superpower. Barf.
America really sucks sometimes.
It's like they exclusively interviewed Boomers
They didn't interview this boomer or any of my hood.
We're the ones who speak up while the rest of you start recording....
Honestly, it depends on the crime.
Treason? Absolutely.
Wage theft? Definitely.
Other variously defined white collar crime? Yup. Lock them up already.
But like, 99% of the crimes people want to get tough on? Yeah. Fuck that
That question wasn't about trans rights, it was about trans identity. A lot of people think of trans people as "those odd queers over there," but also, "Well they seem to be minding their own business, so I don't see why they're supposed to be a roblem," when it comes to discrimination against them.
Remember, the 2022 midterms were largely about abortion and trans rights. The GOP lost that fight pretty hard. Most Americans are supportive of trans rights in the same way they're supportive of gay marriage: "Well, I wouldn't do it, but the government has no business meddling in people's bedrooms!"
The median American political disposition is, at times, more socially conservative than we might like, but still has a strong believe in civil libertarianism. Or, as Tim Walz likes to put it, "Mind your own damn business!"
We’ve all read outrage headlines for people getting a slap on the wrist from the justice system. Let’s start with pretty much every ACAB story, most articles on the Supreme Court, the number of politicians still in office despite actions that would have most of us behind bars, voter suppression and gerrymandering by mostly one of the parties. Consider the defense of that woman who was sentenced after hunting down her abuser
Fair enough. Probably one of those areas where Ds and Rs agree, but for different reasons.
Like when you say "America is going in the wrong direction" and Ds are like "yeah, we're moving rightward and closer to a Christian theocracy and it sucks" and Rs are like "yeah, we're moving leftward and toward a woke secular communist state"
I guess it just struck me as gross because we have like significantly more people locked up in the US than any other country on earth.
