Yup. Decades of Cold War propaganda, an incompetent news media, and a binary, two-party duopoly that positions itself as "the right" versus "the left" have all worked together on this one.
Nuance doesn’t even enter the conversation when it comes to communism. Republicans tell lies based on their voters inability to understand the basic definition of communism.
They've been screaming about socialism and communism for over 20 years now. The next wave of voters has become numb to this bullshit talking point.
It's kind of how in the past they were screaming that gays are going to kill marriages for 20 years, then people finally saw through their bullshit so now they are attacking trans people.
Republican talking points are always fear mongering and lies. My entire life they have NEVER provided a solution to anything. It's constant hysteria and then reactionary bullshit like the patriot act and Iraq war that has made things infinitely worse.
Republicans want to seem tough, but they are some of the most scared, biggest bitches you'll ever meet. They are literarily afraid of bathrooms.....
The problem they have is that communism was a real enemy of the US with examples of autocratic governments worldwide that were well known and scary to people.
However, now that everyone can Google "what is communism" and "what is socialism" only the most incurious morons fall for the "that's socialism!" lines of attack. Everyone else simply laughs about it.
It really doesn't help that Republicans are openly talking about how they want to setup and autocracy/monarchy which is exactly the scary part of former/current communist states. Nor does it help that whenever Republicans are labeling something communist, it's loved social programs such as libraries, social security, or Medicare.
Cops are NOT welcome in communism. They’ll already have spent time up against the wall if society ever evolves. ACAB, even ‘at least they aren’t the shitgibbon’
Well, it's never happened that way in real life, but the dream lives on I suppose. Maybe Cuba? I'm not super familiar with the aftermath of their revolution, but Castro stayed a leader until he died, which seems unlikely in a democratic or otherwise non-authoritarian state.
Socialism has loads of variations. Communism is proven to not be working. Whenever someone wants a more socialist society, it doesn't mean they want communism. Even Hitler wanted a socialist society, the word 'nazi' comes from national socialist. Socialism is good for society, it's just bad for rich assholes who love to exploit others for their own wallet and power. This is clearly visible with the way Elon tries to convince others: he can only use dumb memes as he clearly hasn't got a single solid argument to prove his point.
