The last major holdouts in the protest against Reddit’s API pricing relented, abandoning the so-called “John Oliver rules” which only allowed posts featuring the TV host. It's the official end of the battle. The Reddit protest is over, and Reddit won.
Yeah in a way it was was a win-win. We all find a community we like more. Reddit maintains an enormous user base. I’ve found I no longer care what they do because I like this place better anyway.
I would say if Spez could have another such victory, it might end Reddit entirely as a for-profit endeavor. Maybe we could turn it into a not-for-profit service as it should always have been.
