VTTs for Cyberpunk RED/2020

I was wondering if you guys have any recommendations for how you run your games on the net, or want to just share your setups (discord? foundry? some other niche tool?)

  • Oh also, there is a "Priority speaker" permission on Discord, might be useful for bigger player groups

  • I played RED on Discord.

2 text channels and one voice:

    • #meatspace (for out-of-game chat)
    • #edge (for dice rolls and potential in-game text content like prepared datashards etc)
    • Agent (for voice)

DiceMaiden bot for dice rolls, and Musify renamed as Johnny Silverhand for ambience

You can look here, Revengeday is cooking up something there

    • Oh, I forgot to mention that I play more role playing heavy games, so maps are not necessary. But when I played DnD5e, I used OBS and shared my screen for maps and stuff. (OBS so that I could share a map on the left, some info on the right and my face in the bottom etc.)

      • I don't know how, in all of my time GMing 5e and Cyberpunk, I've never thought to just screenshare a battlemap. That seems like so much less hassle than all the stupid VTT shit I've tried thus far, lol

  • I use a mix of Discord and Foundry to run my table. I host Foundry in AWS, voice comms in Discord, and a mix of a discord bot and instance-hosted media for music ( I use the media hosted on the Foundry instance for specific moods, use the discord bot for more unprepared/random music ).

I use a mix of pre-made maps and hand-made maps depending on what my duders are up to and where I'm going to drive them next.

    • Unfortunately, I suffer from the problem that I always overdo it a little.

When we play over the net then mostly over Discord. I have created a bot which has a shopping system, karma system, banking system. And of course the basic function of dice rolling.

This is very high maintenance and I wouldn't recommend it :D

Mostly I split my screen to show the maps, I moved the chars with Affinity Photo, please don't judge me :D

I am still in the process of optimizing it a bit

  • You didn't specify an OS so I'm going to give my Windows setup: Fantasy Grounds, Discord, Kenku FM, and VoiceMeeter. If I want to stream, OBS Studio. I create my own sounds (atmospheric and effect) and pipe them through Kenku FM though if RPG Sound got more updates I would use that instead. Fantasy Grounds costs a bit but I prefer being able to use it with or without network connectivity.

    • Does Fantasy Grounds have native support for Cyberpunk systems?

      • If you're referring to Cyberpunk Red, then yes.

Fantasy Grounds has both official rulesets (including, but not limited to, DnD 5e, Call of Cthulhu, Starfinder, Vaesen) and community rulesets (including, but not limited to, GURPS and World of Darkness). There are also community created add-ons that are available on their forums, the Fantasy Grounds Forge, the DMsGuild, or DriveThruRPG.

It's probably best to check out their site and see if what they have fits what you're looking for. It's not always the best option depending on your needs but it has been for me.

        Fantasy Grounds
