Thursday Moans
What's been getting your goat this week?
Hayfever causing you to want to rip your eyes out? Office air conditioning too cold? Get it off your chest here.

The trees are still plotting my demise.
Noisy builders. I can handle the hammering, cutting and banging because it's work, but the fucking radio at full blast is really starting to wear now. Three months of this and counting!
Ugh yeah although for me it's all the power tools. As soon as the sun comes out, everyone around me decides it's time to rebuild their entire house starting at 6:55am every day.
From the sound of it, the first step must be blowing the whole thing down with a load of jet engines and drilling into the Earth's core to trigger an earthquake.
I'm not a morning person
This heat is miserable.
I binned all my shorts at the end of last summer and never got around to buying any more. Twat.
"That's one hell of an explanation to give to the arresting police officer. And I'd appreciate if you didn't call me a twat."
Woke up with a gooch hotter than Satan's bru
Yes to the hay fever although it's not really my eyes, it's my nose, throat and inner ears. It's driving me nutty! Antihistamines make me feel rough as hell too, so it's either don't take them and suffer or do take them and suffer in a different way. I'm all for councils doing a bit of rewilding and I really want the bees to be safe, but I will moan about the pollen.
Also, the twat across the road leaves his poor dog outside 24/7 all year round. It barks incessantly day and night, howls at every siren and generally sounds like a very unhappy dog. It's upsetting.
Also suffering from hayfever and dogs constantly barking outside here. I feel you.
I’m sorry to hear you’re having the same experience. We can suffer together.
You can get medical cannabis on a private prescription legally in the uk now. It does wonders for my sciatica, helps me sleep at night when my back is really sore. Stops me from using harsher mens like codeine or naproxen they really upset my stomach.
I'd like to have a nice sleep in a cool room, I'm fucking knackered now.
Having to listen to everybody else moan about hayfever!
Seriously, though, it really does feel like everyone except me gets it these days.
I had it terribly as a child when noone else seemed to be affected. And now I hit 30 I seem to have grown out of it!
I had it terribly in my teens, but it is much milder now. A standard tablet keeps me mostly ok now.
I'm envious
This is the 1st year I've suffered any form of allergies and it's fucked me right up. I used to get bit of seasonal asthma in the winter months but this last couple of months my chests been on its ass, horrible.
Although I have asthma and the tree pollen in the spring sometimes gives me hay fever, usually the grass pollen in the summer isn’t a problem.
I woke in the early hours of this morning with really bad acid reflux and it's burnt my vocal cords, throat, you name it.
Sorted the acid reflux with some antacids quite quickly however the acid was there long enough to cause some damage. I need to remember to take antacids before bed...
You were my favourite green ninja in Mortal Kombat
Laptop is being temperamental today. It's probably annoyed that I've ignored its increasingly urgent pleadings to install various updates, and has taken matters into its own hands. Damn bossy technology!
I'm just fecking done with a levels at this point. Been going since the start of May, and it's only now that they're lightening up a bit.
God, I don't miss exams every single year for 7 years straight
My last year thank fuck! My last one's on the 26th, then I'm finally done with high school. I actually have nothing against high school, wasn't brilliant, wasn't shite, just sick of A levels now
I have an air conditioned and pollen free office but I’d have to leave the house and not scratch my eyes out on the to get to it.
I also almost considering heading into the office to take advantage of the aircon. But that would mean a £10.20 train ticket to Glasgow, and fuck that.
Work has been torturous with API documentation not matching up with reality. Living next to the air conditioner is grand though
I've not had hayfever before but for the last 48 hours I've had a scratchy throat and dry/sticky eyes... So I think I've finally succumb to hayfever and I am barely starting to understand the frustration that all of you long-time sufferers have lived with!
If you sleep with a fan this will also cause dry eyes and a sore throat. At least from my experience!
Oh my goodness it could just be this, I stupidly did so when away on Monday, left aircon on of all things!
To my hayfever suffering friends, I apologise.
Despite all my good intentions my pain levels are really bad right now. Not sure if it the heat or if my body is just reminding me that it doesn't have to use my stomach to make me miserable.
As such, I will be stuck inside today, if I attempt to get sunscreen between my shoulders I this state I might end up in A&E. Wish the cricket were starting today instead of tomorrow, that would be a perfect excuse to not move at all. Also, I have some "ripen at home" plums I bought three weeks ago, they would be perfect for the nets...
Obviously don't know your circumstances, but living with pain of any sort is just so demoralising! Have you tried the likes of Sapphire Medical Clinics etc for prescribed cannabis meds? I get prescribed actual weed but also a tincture of 20mg/ml THC and 20mg/ml CBD and the stuff is a god send for my wife's rheumatoid arthritis. It's something like 50 quid for the intial consultation, and then 50 quid every 3 months for a check up consultation. Tincture is 30ml for £100 and that lasts the whole month.
Unfortunately I am not really in a financial position to do that. Many years ago I complained to my GP that a lot of my problems could be helped by cannabis, and he completely agreed! It was before any usage was approved in the UK, and he is retired now.
Until cannabis is available on an NHS prescription, it will remain on my wishlist. Daft really, they could save a fortune on my other meds.
I have a new moan, took my car into the garage today and found the AC unit has a leak somewhere and can't find it.
This is what happens when you tell the internet you're "always winning"
Yeah. I couldn't help, but reference the hulk. I accept the karma that may fall apon me.
Listened to "Pink noise" to see if it would help me sleep on Tuesday night, felt a bit better but couldn't be 100% whether it actually helped get to a deeper sleep.
So last night tried going to sleep with an audiobook playing and feel like crap. Could be a coincidence, but it means tonight I'm trying that pink noise again and today will be harder.
Coffee beans were running low too, so me and the wife had to split half a pot of coffee between us. That's a sure-fire way for everyone to be lethargic and moody through the day xD
I personally think brown noise is the best for sleep!
Gives you that real warm feeling before bed I bet!
Have we dated at some point in the past?
I like white noise but the other half thinks it's creepy so we have to compromise with 'rain sounds' which is basically a less effective white noise coupled with the sound of someone taking an infinite piss up the side of a tent.
Ha. I don't mind the rain noise so much. But getting used to the Pink Noise was surprisingly painless that first night.
I've just spent 3 hours trying to get my own Lemmy instance setup. The documentation is not in sync with reality at all!
What are you running it on?
My office, a large metal box, does not have AC. Every desk has a fan by it, some people even have two. Still not enough.
Since I got the bird feeder the other day I've became aware of how fucking expensive bird seed is! It's a fucking fortune, and the greedy bastards have the feeder emptied within an hour of me filling it to the brim.
Stupidly, I feel some sort of fucking responsibility for the little fuckers now. How does that make sense? They obviously survived just fine before I put up a wee pink birdhouse, but nope. Sunk 25 quid on bird seed since I got it.
Are you sure it isn't squirrels? They can really take the whole lot.
Wish it was, but nah it's a wee flock of starlings and handful of sparrows. Mostly the starlings though that decimate it.
As I understood it, you should only put food out in the winter when natural food is scarce. They'll go to your food first as its easier, but they lose the ability to find natural stuff / come to rely on you.
Oh fuck, really? But I love watching them :( There were a bunch of starlings with big juveniles that shrieked to be fed, so at least that made life a bit easier for them I guess.
Acht well, I've got a wee bird bath feeder-type thing as well, so I guess filling just the water part will attract enough of them for me to watch.
Edit - had a wee read of the RSPB site which has a good wee section on when and what to feed. It seems that during exceptionally dry periods like this it's ok to put out because they can struggle to find their natural food, like worms etc. The seed I have has mealworms in it so all is well it seems. Crisis averted!
