This is great, Locomotion was a good game in its own right. Hopefully this will be an opportunity to change and fix the game a little going forward - its a game that never quite reached its full potential although already a good game.
Thanks for sharing! I'm going to download it and try it with my gog version. Its 80% off now on fog now BTW.
Wait I'm sure I saw a very similar game in KDE Discover once. Are there 2 similar games being developed at the same time? Anyways great to see more FOSS games and I love the programming language choice.
Same developer but different games, from what I can tell he released Transport Tycoon first, then Locomotion which had ?better graphics and less complexity?
I'll have to try openloco, I've only ever played OpenTTD and it's pretty good
Of course! TTD and Locomotion were developed by the same person. From my understanding Locomotion is closer to the Roller Coaster Tycoon engine and UI. Also I think I remember reading an interview in which Chris Sawyer said Locomotion had the cleanest code out of the three.
On that note, considering the original engines are similar I wonder if OpenRCT2 and OpenLoco have any big similarities in the code base as well...
To retain the look and feel of the original game, we use the original game data for graphics and audio. This means it is required for players to have installed their own copy of Locomotion for OpenLoco to work. It can be bought on e.g. Steam or GOG.com.
Will OpenLoco ever become a standalone and independent game?
