hey folks, we’ll be quick and to the point with this one: ##### we have made the
decision to defederate from lemmy.world and sh.itjust.works. we recognize this
is hugely inconvenient for a wide variety of reasons, but we think this is a
decision we need to take immediately. the remainder of the post...
I mean you do you I guess but seems to me like if you wanted a super exclusive forum where you can control exactly what is said, who says it, when they say it, and who can view it... Maaaaybe don't join a federated system that's almost solely founded on the basis of no walls or barriers between communities existing within the system lol
Right I get that but it's damage that you should 1 billion% expect on a public forum online that literally prides itself on being accessible by a massive array of people from all corners of the Internet. If you wanted a private little corner to build a community I just don't know if this is the right starting point for that. Feels like smashing a square peg in a round hole lol
It's only a matter of time before Lemmy gets hit with a bot problem so I do understand why there'd be concern about open sign ups on those large instances in addition to trolls. So far I've seen a lot of nice things from lemmy.world but that's not to say there isn't bad actors out there.
Not currently, we don't have that many users on our instance here. We already probably very niche! If we find any challenges here, we will of course find a way to overcome them as we did with our Mastodon instance :)
Well, damn. Glad I chose here for my pad. Now the only unsafe thought I have is whether or not we have the same amity for choombas as chummers here? (What's the stance on Shadowrun?)
