- they need not change anything themselves
- someone else pays for it
- it’s not in their way
I spent a lot of money to install solar, got new efficient windows, and got a heat pump to reduce gas usage. I'm thankful to have the financial freedom to make these decisions, as well as to have referrals for affordable options.
We're trying to be better about plastic usage and waste in our household.
I did these to reduce my energy usage. They'll save money long term eventually, but not enough to be worth it monetarily. I can't control much but i can at least try to do what i think is better.
Don't be such a pessimist. There are plenty of people who want climate action and are prepared to sacrifice for it. We can also demand more from our governments without blaming individuals. My government keeps approving new coal and gas plants with reckless abandon even though they could easily be wind or solar. We're allowed to demand more action from them.
Ehh, I started riding a bike and edging toward veganism to reduce my footprint, but it definitely feels like I'm in the minority. And I live in CA, which should be the leader in all of this, sadly.
It's getting better. But way too slowly.
