Here's what you need to know about President Biden and Threads joining the fediverse.
Notice how it only says that Threads posts will be shared on the fediverse. It says nothing about fediverse posts showing up in Threads. This is meta allowing its users to spam the fediverse. It's a hostile, egotistical feature with no sense of community.
How would I block them on Voyager?
They have published a roadmap, which says it will be fully bidirectional by the end of the year. So far they have followed that roadmap, and I don't see a reason why they would stop doing that.
As somebody who used to publish to FB by subscribing my FB account to RSS feeds so that the posts from those feeds would show up on my "wall", I am highly skeptical in the long term interoperability of anything FB owned that directs content created outside the walled garden into the walled garden.
This is why every instance needs to defederate from them.
They didn't "join" anything. They just made an app that allows Meta-owned users to talk to us here in the Fediverse, but we can't talk back.
Jumping into a conversation that people were already having, but you're the only one that gets to talk, is hardly "joining" it.
Not to mention, their API requires creating an Instagram account. The Fediverse doesnt require accounts just to view public data.
All these years and Meta still hasn't learned a thing about an open and free internet. But you can put lipstick on a pig, I guess.
