[Soft] The origin of the world

Eroticism or realism? Pornography or anatomy? You tell me. This famous picture painted in oil on canvas by Gustave Courbet in 1866 has been provocative from the very start. For a long time it was privately owned (hanging in the bedroom?), but you can now see it in Musée d’Orsay in Paris. Erotic or not, I find the view of people in the museum meticulously inspecting this painting titillating in itself. Watching the watchers.

At the risk of posting a cliché, I thought it still should be part of this community’s art collection. Who knows, maybe we accidentally educate a casual passer-by.
