It's so weird being reminded of that other world that exists alongside reality, where the number of times people assume they'll wear an article of clothing or piece of jewelry is in the tens

Most shirts I have are merch. The newest one is 2 years old. The oldest one is around a decade.
It is weird to see those questionnaires about how often you buy clothes, where the minimum timespan is every few days and max is once a month.
