The ground beef was found to be contaminated by the same E. coli strain that was linked to onions in some McDonald’s Quarter Pounders in October.
Summary
Wolverine Packing Co. has recalled 167,000 pounds of fresh and frozen ground beef due to E. coli O157:H7 contamination linked to 15 illnesses in Minnesota between Nov. 2–10.
The bacteria, also tied to McDonald’s Quarter Pounder onions last month, was detected in a tested sample.
The affected products, marked “EST. 2574B,” were distributed to restaurants nationwide.
The USDA urges restaurants to stop serving these products and advises consumers to cook beef to 160°F to eliminate bacteria.
E. coli O157:H7 can cause severe intestinal and kidney complications.
