How do you find content to consume on social media?

Do you just go to the home/feed and let it be fed to you? Do you have things you follow specifically and nothing else? Somewhere in between?

I use Lemmy and YouTube. when Lemmy content dries up, I watch a couple of things on YouTube before I begin doing something productive
- Hoe do you get to your content? Do you sort by new? Do you use the home, shorts or subscription page?
  
  I do a combination of new, active, hot. mostly just sort by new since the other options are iffy on the sync client, its not like there are so many posts to sift through when I surf using new lol
