Players who only have access to the 2014 Player’s Handbook will maintain their character options, spells, and magical items in their character sheets. Players with access to the 2024 and 2014 digital Player’s Handbooks can select from both sources when creating new characters.
Semi related: did the dndbeyond (the app) survive? I bought the rulebooks and imagined characters even when there’s little opportunity to actually play.
I want to download the app and buy the newer books, but I might shake my head in horror as to what has become of dnd.
access all the content that I have bought on dndbeyond
view the player characters that are playing in my campaigns
play my own character(s) as a player, including dice rolls if I want. For major changes to my character it redirects to the website, but it handles all common in-play updates directly in the app (hit points, conditions, inspiration, equipment, preparing spells etc)
Be aware that you can purchase new content in the app or on the website, and the prices may differ between the two. In my case, the app uses Euro prices including VAT, while the website uses USD prices where the Sales Tax/VAT will be added on checkout. Most promotions will only work on the website.
Recommending the DnD beyond app is odd since it is buggy as hell and runs like hot garbage. Using the character sheets in a mobile browser has always been a faster and more stable experience for me. To the point that I actively give shit to anyone who uses the app at our table, there are still two people who are app holdouts in our group though lol.
To each their own, but your "incredibly fine" is my extremely mediocre, also as a player and a DM.
It's especially disappointing how bad it is since the corporate lizards at WotC/ Hasbro have had plenty of time at this point to dump some money into the project and get it up to snuff since the acquisition of DnD Beyond.
I only bought books through the website to avoid the apple tax. I'll look for more information to see if the newer books will "entertain" me, given that I don't have time to play anymore.
I don't have a reference to how it was before, but I tried Beyond once and it was terrible. I cannot in good conscience recommend anyone to spend money on such a horrible piece of crap.
