My raising suspicions about a medication I was prescribed resulted in my pharmacist discovering a "serious" and potentially "life-threatening" drug interaction with another regular medication I take.
Not sure if I should be shitty that both my GP and the pharmacist didn't pick up on this before dispensing the drug? Thankfully I hadn't started taking it yet.
Definitely worth getting outraged about. What the fuck! That is literally their job and not that difficult a task, I imagine, with databases of all these interactions
I recently had to discover myself that a medication i was on has been linked to changes in how your body processes glucose and produces insulin and has been linked to type 2 diabetes. I had a couple of abnormal blood glucose readings in tests that i requested for general health tracking and my doctor was worried enough to send me for further diabetes testing. I found the medication link, weaned myself off and returned my blood glucose to normal levels with no thanks to doc!!
Years ago I was on some steroid meds for bronchitis and took some cough medicine (not an unusual thing to do when you have a chest infection). I developed really low blood pressure due to drug interactions, and found out later that those 2 medications shouldn’t be taken together. Luckily I was fine but it was scary, and neither the dr or chemist mentioned the risk at the time.
