Y'all know there's a voting system so people see the kind of posts they would want from a tech sub
"they would want" or "whatever drives engagement more"?
Does downvoting actually demote posts here? There's no karma.
It depends on your home instance, your admin can apply a different weight to up votes and downvotes, or ignore downvotes entirely. so users from different instances will see posts sorted in different orders.
