How about a compromise?
We almost meet the basic needs of the poorest people, but also let them starve and freeze to death?
In the long run it’ll cost us a lot more than just helping them, but it’s a middle ground.
Just pick the best of both sides. On one hand give them free lunch at school, on the other separate them from their immigrant parents and deport the parents so they grow up strong (because good times make weak men and all).
Expose them to small-calibre handgun rounds at school so they build up an immunity for when they have no choice but to join the military to afford college.
