And just like everybody else, you forgot the Native Americans.
You know, the ones that they're trying to remove their citizenship based on some 140-year-old law that has already been superseded by other better law?
I really, really, don't understand how/why Native Americans are treated so bad. It makes no sense to me. Then their artifacts and regalia will be copied or sold for top dollar. It's insane.
This goes beyond one president, literally back to the founding of the country. It's not just some grudge held by this particular president. Even Obama has done some heinous shit to natives in regards to their land and rights.
The reservations have always been a set off moving goal posts that have been granted, moved around, and revoked—regardless of how 'good' or 'not good' the land is. The US government (read: capitalism, bc that's what it's always been) wants ALL the land.
What are you talking about? I'm not defending Trump, or using whataboutism? I'm trying to explain the history of consistent oppression of native peoples. It's unfortunately as old as white people coming here in the first place; Trump is just the latest flavor of awful. This country is literally founded on genocide, and just about every president has partaken.
I live in Oklahoma, my spouse is a tribal member, as is my child. I'm extremely close to the issue and try to make myself as educated on the topic as I can. I also try to educate others, since a lot of people genuinely don't know how far back this shit goes, as our education system deliberately leaves it out. That's what I was trying to do here.
One of my best friends in childhood was Duwamish, and his family had it rough. Haven't seen him in 50 years, and all that was forgotten come meme-making time. I'm guilty as charged, sorry.
