- Making use of sonic grains
I give a way this e-book (I´m the author) about making music with granular sound tweaking and sonic grains in general for free. You can download it here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dj3av5q141ln5zi/In%20the%20World%20of%20Grains.pdf?dl=0 I´d be happy to read some comments about this book here. Enjoy your day! Rolf
- making songs be hard
Hey everyone! Just found this place, looks pretty empty so I figured I should post.
I'm an aspiring musician. My dream is to play my songs on stage, which is slowly becoming a reality. I probably won't get there until I'm 40, but seeing as that's just a few years from now I guess that's not too bad!
I've always wanted to put music out into the world. Music that makes you feel, that's relatable. Music that has a message. Music that inspires one to do stuff.
So far I have a bunch of lyrics, and about 4 songs partially recorded. I'm very unorganized which hinders me from doing this more quickly. I'm also a father of 3 so I get caught up in family life alot.
Couple questions...
Does anyone post their own stuff here? I have some tunes (very raw, amateurish) that I could share if anyone was interested! I'd love to hear your sounds as well!
Does anyone have advice as to how they started performing? Or any other advice? Or thoughts? Or if you just want to make friends feel free to DM me! I don't look at my messages regularly but I'll see it at some point and reply!
My main instrument is electric guitar, but I also play piano, keyboard, drums, I sing, DJ, guitalele, banjo and theremin!
Sorry this is such a long post! Hope you all have an excellent day!
- What are you practicing right now?
I'm trying to re-memorize some chord voicings I used to be able to do right upon seeing the chord.
- NameThatSong on the Fediverse
Used to use r/NameThatSong on Reddit sometimes when I could not remember the name of a song but remembered how the song went. It's on the Fediverse too at !namethatsong@lemmy.wtf

- What is your go-to sheet music notation software?
Latest MuseScore 3 is mean to me about saving. I have to Save As everytime and half the time it gets weird about playback afterwards so I have to close it out and reopen.
Updated to MuseScore 4 and to be honest I forget most of my grievances with it beyond a playback issue with some weird thing I did, but it also bothered me enough to run crying back into the arms of MuseScore 3 (thank you Internet Archive). It was probably something about formatting which is ironic considering all the engraving improvements they made. Considering an alternative after using MuseScore for most of my life. What do yall use?
And literally just after posting this I remembered LilyPond, which a friend told me about awhile back. Never really checked it out. It's free though!
- www.musicradar.com SampleRadar: 347 free funk and soul guitar samples
More than 300 funk-laden licks for your productions
Hi fellow musicians.
I hope posting royalty free sample packs is allowed. I am a musician myself, (guitars, drums and piano) but lately I mostly do edm and hip hop production on DAW. These loops are high quality, well indexed, and perfect for chopping them up.
There are Soundcloud example on the website.

- DAW or Digital Audio Workstation
Digital Audio Workstation (DAW).
At some point you might want to record some of the music you have been playing. Of course you can hold your phone next to your guitar and record, and at times you don't need more than that. But what if you want to do a bit more, actually record a full song, or multiple layers of instruments. That's when DAW's come into play.
What are some of your favorites? What are the ones that in specific cases do a thing really good, but in other scenarios not so much.
- What instruments do you play?
Your classic introduction (with a twist) topic. What instruments do you play, or what do you want to start playing?
- Live in-ear monitoring system
So to start this community with a question I have myself.
A little bit of context:
I am a drummer, and for shows currently using a Behringer in-ear system where I will get a mono or stereo xlr as input.
This is already a lot better than having to rely on the wedge and I have a little bit of control over at least the volume.
The rest of the band is currently using the wedges.
I would like to upgrade this setup a bit to have more control over what i will hear on my in-ears, and be it more consistent for every show. Next step would be to get the other members to also use it.
Any recommendations on what would be a good starting point that is not immediately breaking the bank, but can be expanded over time and gives us that control.
- The band consists of 5 people. (1 drums, 2 guitars, 1 bass, 1 vocals)
- We bring our own sound engineer to shows
- price range around ~ 1000 euros
