  • Yes - to some extend. But beyond that you wouldn't. Which doesn't make you a bad person. It's normal human behavior to only hang around with people you have enough in common with. A different socioeconomic status is just one example of many, you can swap it with other things like political stance, religious beliefs, health and so on. If the difference is too big then there is nothing anyone can do about it aside from going their own ways. Which is better than having endless conflicts, don't you think?

  • You have grown apart because you belong in different socioecominic classes now. It's sad but this happens all the time. It ends friendships, relationships and even family ties. I'm sure you already know all of this, you're just struggling with admitting it to yourself.

  • That would be the opening prelude of Final Fantasy VII. You immediately understand what the themes of the game are when listening to it, it's highly effective in portraying things/feelings like loss, despair, melancholy, overcome, hope. And all of that with a rather limited set of instruments (compared to other compositions). It's pure and sincere without being kitschy. Nothing is hidden or ambiguous or pretentious. It wears its big broken heart on its sleeve in the best possible way. It's a masterpiece.

  • That's a complex and interesting topic by itself. Gifts can't be selfless (without some benefit to the giver) because even if you donate something anonymously, it makes you feel better or at least you're thinking you're doing the right thing (in the coldest way possible). Which means every gift is "tainted" in some way. So the only thing we can do is to make this transaction/investment called gift more fair. Remains the question: what is fair?

  • No. It's about you, me and everyone else throwing money at people who have more than we do. And at the same time we all take from those who have less than we have. This helps us with securing our position in social hierarchy (to some degree) which also stabilizes the hierarchy. This is how we work as human beings, it's our very nature.

  • Kind of. But it's more about control. We can't control other people. We can't make them like us, love us, appreciate us by buying flowers. We can only control ourselves (to some extend).

If you want something done right, do it yourself.

  • "Happiness belongs to those who are sufficient unto themselves. For all external sources of happiness and pleasure are, by their very nature, highly uncertain, precarious, ephemeral and subject to chance." - Arthur Schopenhauer
