  • I haven't read all of Chomsky and I don't watch VEEP.

But there are reasons I started my news coms, and part of that is in the sidebar. Journalists with editorial independence (in my independent news communities) and a plurality of sources can help someone understand the narratives of the world a little better than no information at all. That's why I post from a variety of sources to add to the options here.

I misread your comment earlier, now I see that you pointed to mainstream media and not media as a whole. I'd have to agree that the major media conglomerates do conspire around the kinds of stories they provide, and politics favors a certain kind of person.

  • Probably not. I'm not easily offended.

  • How does that explain the further information that's come out since the initial articles? Sometimes surface level describes all the information they have at the moment.

I don't believe for a second that there's some kind of widespread conspiracy between all journalists to only provide inadequate reporting, especially when sources like Unicorn Riot and Propublica are providing first-hand accounts and in-depth investigations.

  • That's... exactly what the article says.

  • “We believe that changing the rule to one that has no mixed-team requirement at all, such that teams in the top division are not required to include a female player, would serve to actively discourage female participation in chess.”

Like the only two options are following the rule and abolishing the rule. For a representative from a chess league he sure as hell has a hard time seeing the whole board. It's either that or a willful ignorance that favors breaking up the only all-women team.

  • Thank you. The additional details are mostly about the structure and engineering as opposed to opinion, I'd trust it. Very cool to see sustainable fusion energy in my lifetime.

  • Taylor said the findings challenge the idea that wage differences are driven by women simply choosing lower-paying careers.

"The pay gap is not about some inherent preference in women for jobs that offer lower wages," she said. "Rather, it is that we actually do pay women's occupations less because we devalue women."

I can't number the arguments I've been in IRL where people say the pay gap isn't a thing anymore.

  • Getting someone pregnant is exclusive to people born male. Most clothing and shoe stores are divided into men's and women's sections. And there are men's health and hygiene products in every grocery store and pharmacy I've been to.
