Melbourne can go either way for Christmas Day.

This year pissing rain and thunder, top of 21c and 75% humidity round my area.

Not terrible, but not great.

At this point I'm limiting what I access and where. I'm targeting a more 1990's internet experience. I love learning and technical stuff and would miss it if I went off grid, no matter how tempting that is.

Very rarely do I have a positive view on posts in this com, but this is a rare exception.

No mindless, pointless, circle jerk hating, but rather a positive and legitimate wish and view toward an alternative.

People can hate on cars so they want, but since people and places end up making cars nesecary.

Earlier this year I needed to go Melbourne to Albury, usually a trip done in a car, but this time I had use of a car at the other end so I took the train. Was a fantastic trip. Access to a small food bar, toilets, the occasional stop at more significant towns.

Trains kick ass.

I'd love to see a better in town solution for transport, buses and whatever both in Albury and my home town aren't really up to scratch yet.

Sounds like she's rarely out never noticed you use it either... Which makes it interesting both because of the uncommon UI and workflow, and she has not had regular observations to learn from.

The energy required to produce the solar panels is huge, is even go as far to say worse than concrete.

The panels are usually embedded in a resin, or urethane or some plastic like material, extra thick too, to withstand the traffic over it.

All that combined with the reduced energy yeild from the compromised use situation... It's not great.

Solar on rooftops has far higher output per area. This better return somewhat offsets the energy that goes into them.

I'm actually really trying to play devils advocate... But I'm struggling.

I came to get away from the main stream socials.

I came to minimise my farmed data footprint.

I came to find other like minded people.

These principals alone are shared by quite a few I guess.

If we end up hooked up to the machine we were trying to escape from then coming here was near pointless.

Hard disagree. Android user here. The number of times if had to show iPhone users how to use their shit is annoying.

Workflows agree no better on a fruit phone than an Android device half the price.

You're focusing on being radical and using emotional buzz words (death of children), where as I'm actually interested in changing the status quo with regard to cars, and have been effective in doing so at a local level without making an ass of myself.

I share what I've achieved when practical and many good discussions come of it.

The difference is, fuck cars is an ineffective and damaging community when it comes to influencing positive change, and you think you're part of the solution when in fact your part of the problem.

People are never going to take a community like that seriously while so critical and full of negativity.

Yeah. Let's get upset at a car that even Americans posting here admit they've never seen on the road. It's a piece of crap, but hardly a problem worth paying any attention to.

Something on par with iOS for usability and security. And as virtuous as everyone claims iOS and Apple are for security they really aren't that great. It's clear you've drunk the koolaid so I won't waste my time further.
