The clothing color could be due to lighting. Remember the blue black dress meme? Multiple backpacks is too easy. So that's a non-issue.

That being said. Why isn't anyone considering that maybe the cops couldn't give a shit either. But they have to try because the money people said so.

Basically reddit 10-15 years ago. The doomsday edging gets stale when you realize things are cyclical. Millennials were supposed to implode with debt by now. An economic cycles or two later and that didn't happen. Now it's Gen-Zs turn to be on the brink of doom.

Another way to look at this is a back channel method of breaking down the big tech oligopoly.

I'm all for this. Kids are smart. They start using the rest of the internet. They'll become tech savvy.

When dental care started being covered here suddenly my parents had a bunch of urgent issues. The guy is bit of a diva too. He absolutely will not acknowledge the patients at all who not scheduled for procedure with him. Not even a "hi" or anything. Dentists are a weird bunch.

I'm pretty sure samygo killed the storage chip on my TV due to wear. I suspected it was going to be a problem seeing as the hack dumps log files indiscriminately.

I'd be more upset if I actually used the smart TV stuff.

I've been calling this for years. The next holocaust will be more efficient than Hitler could ever imagine beyond his wildest dreams. Big tech knows more than people know about themselves. We're all on lists we don't even know we're on. People will be discriminated for reasons they didn't know they could be.

Social platforms are under the same effect as voting. Over half population either supports it or is too ill informed. They just want to scroll their feed without thinking too much. Same way voters just vote for the one that sounds alright on the surface. Combined with the fervent supporters makes a majority. It's the minority of voters/users who are opinionated against it.

Woke == Haram. It's christian sharia law. You know, that thing conservatives have been fear mongering about for what like 20 years. Except want their version of it for real.

My theory has been that left leaning men let other voices be heard. That came at the cost of letting the right fill the power vacuum. The left need to let their own assholes be assholes.

I think Democrats have needed more chaotic good and lawful evil parts of the chart. Everyone else on the left need to realize those guys will need to say the wrong things for the right reasons. After all the messaging is not for you. It's for the boys with a tendency to the right.

What they say will not agree with you. Lose the battle, win the war.

There's a bigger story here. The tech industry is making a play as a lot of tech billionaires had openly supported Trump late in the election cycle. Elon weirdly becoming Trumps shadow. Bezos human-centipeding himself to Trumps corn hole. a16z doing an about face after supporting Democrats all these years, openly admitting its because "fuck you, lower taxes for the rich".

Elon surviving Trumps conveyor belt of cronies is irrelevant. The tech billionaires have signaled they are all in on Trump. It's pretty obvious his regime is better for them. No more regulatory road blocks. Policy that personally benefits wealthy individuals.

What is going to happen with all the Google antitrust stuff. I assume it's as good as gone.

I suspect big tech knew with near 100% certainty the Trump victory. It's their whole reason for existence to know these things. I might even be inclined to say they nudged it in their favor. Elon suddenly inserting himself into the picture is pretty damning. I think he knew if not outright leveraged Twitter until their internal analytics showed a certain Trump victory.

The agitators are gone. The useful idiots remain.

Voats problem wasn't engagement. It was literal nazis.

They tried to prop up a thin veneer of legitimacy but at some point they just stopped caring. The front page became blatant "kill all [whatever]" type posts. That's when engagement completely collapsed.

Lemmy has some clearly in bad faith instances which are probably run by nazis. Federation seems to be doing its job of resilience.

People are turning on each other. Like those saying Latinos should out each other to be deported. Nothing but more examples of how divisive the Trump regime is. I suppose I don't have to look up how this kind of thing has happened before in times of fascism. I'll bet it's gotta be true.

You can’t enlist the support of an entire gender by telling them that they are the source of all of society’s evils, and that they themselves are fundamentally evil no matter what, that they are all rapists-in-training, that the world would be better off if they were all killed, and that they are no better than vermin. And more importantly: that when they do something objectionable it is misogyny and bigoted and disgusting and (with some things) even illegal, but when women do it, it is a big nothingburger with zero consequences for the woman.

I dare say they own Reddit and likely were running social media interference at the lowest levels (with false stories of hopium. If you were on /r/politics you know what I’m talking about, focusing on shitty stories that Kamala was ahead)

Notice how the politics subreddit is basically operated like the_donald. It's controlled opposition. During the 45th administration they made a huge deal out of every single thing Trump did. No matter how big or small there was megathreads. What happened during Bidens administration? Fuck all of attention to anything. It was like 50/50 chance on any given week the mods would bother to create big posts for anything significant the administration accomplished. Net effect of making Biden seem more ineffectual. It's basic a strategy of skewing what people are seeing by subtly editorializing the feed.

Throughout the Harris campaign there was scarcely any good discussion about actual policies. There was no shortage of comments saying it looks like she has not much policy. Followed by rare replies that never get any upvotes pointing out yes there's actually an easily digestible 80 page document.

They let the subreddit flood with newsweek articles about how well Harris is polling. Seems to be one of the main diversionary tactics.

A lot of reddit users don't seem to understand that reddit is not a democratic content driven platform. What they see can and is editorialized by the moderators. Hell people can't even figure out the difference between admin (reddit employee) and mod (anonymous users with indeterminate biases/agendas). Some even seem to think reddit employees run subeddits. What a fucking disaster of ignorance but I digress.

All in all it appears reddit never recovered from the 2015-2016 the_donald coup. There was never an answer to that lrlourpresident account which was obviously astroturfing Democrat named subreddits.

I think much of the older userbase of anyone remotely left of center has gradually left by attrition over the years. Coincidentally between 2016 and today they've basically relaunched the platform bringing in whole new waves of unsuspecting users with the desktop redesign, phone app, and the IPO.

Something that hadn't dawned on me until relatively recently with all the Musk Twitter bullshit. After reddit the company became independent from Conde Nast their chief source of funding is Thiel and Andreessen. Both we now know are hardcore MAGA supporting billionaires.

Steve Huffman calling those white supremacists on their platform "valuable discussion" is his "very fine people" moment.

ETA: The DOJ released documents from Russia stating they are to target "community of American gamers, users of reddit and image boards such as 4chan (the backbone of right-wing trends in the US segment of the internet)". Emphasis mine. Comments linking to these documents were being inexplicable removed from the politics subreddit. This whole story got swept off the reddit news cycle real quick.
