Wells Fargo worker found dead at her desk four days after clocking in
  • This is one reason why daily stand ups exist in the tech world. For bigger teams it could be split into groups.

What's A Piece Of Software You Could Never Do Without?
  • Personally for me, it allows me to dump stuff out of my noggin good or bad. That way I can stop thinking about it and move on. A form of self reflection. I have a bad habit to hold onto thoughts and go down a rabbit hole with them in an unhealthy fashion. Basically journaling but I can store things I have learned long term.

The beauty of it is Obsidian (or really any other writing app) allows you to develop a system of writing for you. I’m not the typical writer but Obsidian allows me to write without worrying about the organization so much.

  • What's A Piece Of Software You Could Never Do Without?
  • Obsidian.

Since the Internet in general is getting harder to find genuine information, it is becoming increasingly important to save anything important to you. One day it could just disappear without warning. Obsidian can be used for an offline knowledge base. Design it however you like. I do recommend NOT watching YouTube Obsidian “gurus”, their system works for them not you.

  • How to decide what kind of controller one should purchase?
  • Flydigi Vader 3/4 Pro. Been using one for a couple months. Hands down best controller I have used. Hall effects, trigger locks, rear buttons, mechanical face buttons, glorious d pad. The not so fun is the crap software and joystick defaults. Once you update on pc it is great. Under $100 for either model.

  • Thank you, great feature.

  • Major Xbox influencers pull support over multiplatform rumours
  • Why would an influencer pull support over nothing officially announced yet? Most likely true but sounds like an out to me.

Jokes aside, the community welcomes all alternative clients Desktop, Mobile, etc. No one can fix Google's poor decision making except Google. What can we do as consumers of Youtube to fix what is broken in the short term? Any alternative interface that fixes the problems for which we have control over.

  • Steam Next Fest is currently ongoing - which demos did you like/dislike?
  • Balatro, it reminds me of how everyone who back in the day played Solitaire on the desktop to pass time. Instead it has a modern take with poker and mixing it into a roguelike. Easy to learn but can be complicated. I thought I was going to put 30 minutes into the game but now I have 10 hours into it and can't wait for full release. Recommend it even if you do not like card games.

  • The first steam next fest of 2024 fest is live. Explore free demos from February 5th to February 12th
  • This one surprised me. I was going to spend 30 minutes playing, now have logged 10 hours.

  • What backup service do you use?
  • While I agree with you, hard drives do have a shelf life. How many years seems to be up for debate but it does exist. If you don’t have multiple drives that are of different ages you may be in a world of hurt one day.

  • What game feels 'timeless' to you?
  • The Binding of Isaac. I keep buying it on all platforms. No single run is the same. More expensive than it should be these days but it is my crack.

  • Hello fellow adults! Anybody else feel like almost every time you have to talk to someone to buy a thing, you're being swindled? If so how do you keep yourself from being taken advantage of?
  • You've already taken the first step by being self-aware when dealing with salespeople. I commend you for recognizing this, as it's disheartening to see many people in the US unaware of it and consequently spending more money than necessary. I share your sentiment that everything seems like a con these days, particularly when it involves big companies. It's crucial to conduct thorough research before making purchases exceeding $200+.

  • YSK: How to embed images accessibly on Lemmy
  • Lemmy should do it similar to how I have seen this done on Mastodon. When you upload an image an overlay shows up to remind the user to describe the image before submitting. The typical user is not going to remember to do this.
