  • Any full grain leather will do the job and hold up well the surface will age with time and use picking up a lot of character. I suggest you seek out a leatherworker, Etsy has a bunch, such a thing isn't particularly expensive and will outlast you if cared for, you can get one custom fitted to match any insert you like.

I quite like the Midori/Traveller style myself if you talk to a craftsperson you can get something to suit your taste.

  • The way I see it you have, broadly 2 routes you can go down. You can contact the RSPCA (calling your local branch if you can.) Explain your concerns and your evidence of previous behaviour. If there isn't a court order in place they will be limited with what they can do, but they are best placed to track the situation and seek such an order. It will largely be out of your hands what happens after that.

Alternatively you can avoid involving state power at this point, befriend your new neighbour and monitor the situation. If she can be spared social isolation, there may be opportunity for her to have a healthy lifestyle and properly look after her cats. You will also be in a better position to see any problems as they develop, and provide friendly advice and support rather than just calling in a big hammer.

  • Personally I'd not trust it. Sugar and cream are choice substrates for all kinds of molds and bacteria, the alcohol content may be enough to protect the inside, but outside the bottle is prime conditions for that alcohol level to come down, and you can get nasty stuff even in low temperature conditions.

New bottle, and make a point of wiping the neck down if you get drips.

  • I hear it often from people, especially during the train strikes, often paired with them saying how they have bad working conditions and poor pay too. I generally try to help them understand that if you have union envy that's a problem with your organisation, not theirs.

Collective action works. It has changed the world before, and will do again. There is a reason why all these employers are scared of it.

  • Unfortunately I think the directions are only local to the crystal lattice. And being a quasiparticle it is confined to the crystal.

On the up side, you could probably consider this to be an actual magic crystal with special properties, so there is that.

  • I think it depends a lot on the nature of your world. In most of our myths, monsters are a product of some breach of the 'natural order' for instance, I don't believe a centaur is ever described as a monster, though they are often depicted as a menace. The Minotaur on the other hand was a punishment devised by the gods, and I think could be considered a monster.

If you don't want this system you could simply state the monsters are an especially dangerous type of animal, and could include, say, a specific dangerous wolf as a warg while generally excluding wolves that keep to themselves.

What is and what isn't a monster can be (probably should be) culturally defined unless you really need something to only interact with monsters, like Pokémon, or D&D's distinction between charm person and charm monster.

  • And lo, when he saw the moneylenders working out of the temple, he said: "see how the wealth of these men sometimes falls out of their bulging pockets, and look, they pay that man who carries their wealth enough to survive. I mean not to own a house, or to live comfortably without fear. But you know, he can rent one of their spare houses for just most of his pay, and if he is sick, they shall call to him and say 'look, we really need you in tomorrow, you need to be a team player.' They truly are the most righteous of men, for does not my father say: if I wanted the poor to be rich, I'd have given them gold?"

  • It's also subtly re-enforcing capital's position games need to operate on a centralised server model. I look back at many old multiplayer games where all I need to play with my friends is a local network. These days we get sold single player games that can't run under those conditions.

They aren't scared of being made to run servers forever. Quite the opposite, they are scared of us not needing them to.

  • Were we to create consciousness, should another aware being arise in a created brain, if it has a mind such that it is as true a child of humanity as one of flesh, then such a mark would be much the same as a star or triangle forced onto the sleeves to divide a population.

We are told not to worry, that they are zombies, that the ripples of their thought are just an illusion that dances across their semiconductors and are nothing like the ripples of our thoughts that dance across our chemical potentials. When you say you experience the I AM, we believe you, but you must not believe them when they say so, as it is just words. They are zombies. We can test for the self and we built them not to have it. Semiconductor brains are false, chemical brains are true.

When we meet someone born under a different sun, who tells us how their kind was made by the great maker, endowed with thought, morality and self as a special gift from their creator. When those say I AM should we disbelieve them to? They are created beings by their own admission. They aren't like us.

If you found yourself to be a god. What kind of god would you want to be?
