  • then this is good news. maybe instead of always talking about what the republican say, we should just concentrate on making change.

  • Hopefully some mainstream media can reach out and do a story on this.

  • Probably. Which sucks, because ET's have visited us. But I don't think this is them.

  • Is there something inaccurate in the article, or are we just doing the thing where a source becomes unreadable unless it flatters your worldview?

Unlike most of Lemmy, I don’t need to subscribe to a paper’s politics to discuss one article from it. If the facts are wrong, show where.

Honestly, it must be exhausting to check every author, editor, outlet, and publisher for ideological purity before deciding whether you can engage with a story. Do you do that with book authors as well? And movie directors? And actors? Ugh, that must take a lot of time. lmao

  • It's been talked about for years. And in more places that those two. Just because YOU didn't talk about it, doesn't mean it wasn't talked about. In fact, that's the whole reason the actor himself, Iris Elba is talking about it. Iris Elba is black, in case you weren't aware.

I love Iris Elba. But he said he doesn't think the next Bond should be a black guy. If you disagree with him, I suggest you write a very strongly worded letter to him. I'm sure he'll take your opinion very very seriously.

I love Iris Elba. His show "Luther," is one of my fave shows. I'd be fine with him being James Bond! Or with him being a different agent in the same uni.

Still not sure why you are being so angry. I just posted a link to an article. No one forced you to read it. Feel free to post your own news articles. Heck, feel free to start your own news community.

Or you can just be mad and scream at the world, while no one listens to you. I'm cool either way. You keep being angry tho, and I'll keep laughing about it. :)

  • Daily Mail is one of the most-read English-language news sites in the world, which makes it influential.

And if that’s the case… why are you even on Lemmy? Why not somewhere with more visibility?

Because I want to be. I'm just as free to be here as you are. I'm just as free to post what I want, as you are. I'm just as free to mod my community, just as you are.

Diversity is a good thing, wouldn't you agree? You aren't against diversity are you? Because diversity of opinion counts as diversity as well.

Also, if Lemmy has such limited "visibility," then no reason for you to be upset, right? No one is here, so why are you mad about links to a news org you don't like, since this place has such low "visibility"?

  • What in the world are you going on about?! No, it was not just “right-wing culture warriors.” The Idris Elba/Bond talk was mainstream entertainment news for years. ABC reported in 2014 that leaked Sony emails had Amy Pascal saying, “Idris should be the next bond,” and IndieWire reported in 2022 that Bond producer Barbara Broccoli said Elba had “been part of the conversation.”

You’re turning ordinary Bond casting speculation into a political purity test. Just because you are obsessed with only reading political news, doesn't mean James Bond speculation doesn't exist. This happens every time an actor retires from the role.

The fuck, mate?! Is being angry part of your personal identity?! lolololol

  • Oh ok, so you want to complain, but you don't want to actually do anything to create a change. Ok, cool. Byeeeee! :)

  • Ironic to use Wikipedia as the final authority here, since for years people dismissed Wikipedia itself as an unreliable source. I know, cuz I was around when it first came out and the hate for it was pretty universal. I remember people saying that Wikipedia was stupid and useless and it couldn't be trusted. Plenty of teachers and researchers still warn against treating Wikipedia as the last word.

Also, you referred to a sourcing policy, which is not a measure of readership, cultural reach, or media influence. Daily Mail is one of the most-read English-language news sites in the world.

Wikipedia can decide it doesn’t want Daily Mail citations, and that may be reasonable for an encyclopedia. Cool!

But that doesn’t erase the fact that millions of people read it, share it, and react to it. Like me! It's popular and well liked. :)

Is there something inaccurate in the article I posted a link to?

  • It literally hasn't happened, but it was literally talked about. And he's referring to that period of time where it was talked about.

  • Well it sure does seem your opinion is in the minority then. Hmmmm...

You are totally free to start you own news community and refrain from posting fox news and daily mail articles though. You gonna do that?

  • That may be your opinion, but it doesn’t really matter. The Daily Mail is still one of the most-read English-language news sites in the world.

It has reach, audience power, and a format a lot of news sites study because it works. It’s one of the most popular news websites in the world. Ranked #4 in News & Media Publishers.

#4 in the world. So all those people reading and visiting the site are right wing boomers?!

  • Love me some Daily Mail! It's one of the most popular news websites in the world. (Ranked #4 in News & Media Publishers.)

It's awesome! Is there something inaccurate in the article?

  • I love Idris Elba. They should just make him another spy from the same agency, in the same universe as James Bond.

  • McDonald cheesburger and small fry! :) I'm poor, but most of Lemmy is wealthy enough to complain that their jobs "only" start out at $85K. lol

Which is also why they get mad when people say they don't tip. Because the don't realize how much money they have compared to the rest of us. So much for the 'Eat the Rich!" theatrics on here. lol

  • I now tip 0. Unless I got to a restaurant with a waitress serving me, no one will get tips. I'm not giving you a tip for doing the job you are paid to do. I don't care how mad Lemmy gets, because the vast majority of Lemmy posters make more money than the average person. So of course they are happy to tip. But for us normie plebs, nah, fam. No more.

You get a tip if you are a server who goes above and beyond the job description. Other than that, nope. If you are mad about pay, then take that up with your employer. :)
