Valve probably wants consumers to have a machine in their home that is dedicated to running their marketplace. They don't care if it's hardware they sold. They want the same accessiblity to their store front that consoles have.
My theory is that the being who created the totems is borrowing the power of each soul's death and using that to recreate their body on the other side. There must be some minor difference in power that this being collects for itself. Even a small difference would be worth it at scale.
Bumble bees also eat small animals such as spiders, aphids and wasps not strictly nectar and pollen. I would be concerned having other small pets around these "kitten bees".
I had a robin nest on my porch light some years ago. I thought it would be neat to watch them grow up. Then the bird mites got into my house through the water spigot that happens to connect to the bathroom sink inside. Come to find out that the mites can't live off of human blood, but that doesn't stop them from trying. Good luck.
