  • I've never actually read any of her stuff, but I've known enough Libertarians and played enough Bioshock in my day to be passingly familiar with Ayn Rand's whole...thing. So when I spotted Owl Criticism's recent five-plus hour deep dive [05:19:15] into Rand's life, philosophy, and her magnum opus Atlas Shrugged, I knew I had to click. This creator is new to me, and I really like his chill, humour-tinged delivery; a five hour commitment sounded like a lot, but I really found it worth it.

  • In the aerial photo uploaded to X, there is a group of about eight people near the stage, to the centre, wearing purple shirts. As reported by the Star, and other media, there were hundreds of protesters concentrated by the main stage, compared to thousands of Ford Fest attendees sprawled across the park. Near the stage, protesters were among dozens of Ford supporters, including political staff and invited stakeholders. The aerial photo appears to show blue balloons, while a Star reporter observed only purple and pink balloons in the crowd by the main stage.

  • Thanks! Knowing I have paid thousands out of pocket over the past 15-20 years for fillings, crowns, root canals, wisdom teeth, etc., to me, $100 genuinely feels like a miracle even though I know I'm lucky to be in the position where even that's affordable. Feeling grateful, for sure!

Sadly, I suspect anybody who has worked in dev knows the outlines of this story: Management promising deliverables with unrealistic timelines and functionality; team leads with such poor internal product knowledge they don't recognize catastrophic issues until it's too late; poorly-trained devs squeezed to push out unscalable kludgy insecure nightmares "for now" that just never get addressed; systems gradually becoming a Jenga tower of manual workarounds and undocumented slapdash quick fixes... Ugh. Nightmare fuel.
