> >‘Omar al-Mokhtar is considered the great symbol for the Libyan resistance (Jihad) against the Italian occupation. In 1922 he reorganized the Mojahideen and re-ignited the resistance against Italy after World War I when the [Fascists] thought that they succeeded in silencing the Libyan resistance. Omar Al-Mokhtar was ill [a] couple of times and many of his comrades asked him to retire and leave the country; he was [nearly] 80 years old. But he refused and kept fighting and he deserved a name given to him as “The Lion of the Desert.” On 16 September, 1931 the [Fascists] hanged Omar Al-Mokhtar in the city of Solouq and they forced the Libyans to watch their hero be hanged. No consideration to Omar Al-Mokhtar's old age, no consideration to international law and no consideration to world war treaties.’ > > (Source. Note that the ‘Mojahideen’ is not to be confused with the unrelated Afghan mujahideen.) > > As paraphrased in the dramatization Lion of the Desert, to General Rodolfo Graziani: > > >‘We will never surrender. We win, or we die. […] You will have the next generation to fight, and after the next, the next. As for me, I will live longer than my hangman.’ > > — Omar al-Mukhtar (1862–1931)

> -Two large tsps of instant coffee > -Dissolve with hot water in the bottom of the cup > -Stir, add milk > -Put ice in glass, move coffee to your glass > > Cheaper than Starbucks > I'm gonna try this with ground coffee and different types of milk. Overall the coffee sets the taste and intensity while the milk sets the texture of the coffee. > (Make coffee in a cup then move it to a glass when milk is added to avoid breaking the glass)
Nearly a year since the Taliban seized power, new restrictions have reshaped the social fabric. Schools and jobs are again off-limits for women, music has been banned, and beards are mandatory for men — just like in the 1990s.

B-but America...!
I mean, you'd have to be evil to support the invasion, regardless of being a socialist or not.
Welcome to our wonderful little community. Please join the Matrix chat because it's very active and welcoming.
I've officially created a geopolitical discussion group on Matrix. I would like to affiliate it with this Lemmy community.
Man, I get this, but you're late the party. Telegram was exciting 8 years ago. :)
Signal has a lot of things going for it Matrix doesn't have... more convenient, simpler, easier to use, more focus on privacy, better calling. Matrix does some things Signal does, but they have different feature sets really. Matrix being free software, unfortunately, doesn't matter to most people. Matrix also arguably isn't really about security and privacy. It's more of a universal chat platform, so they don't compete directly.
The fact the Matrix is usually marketed as a platform for secure and private communications is somewhat difficult to understand.
I don't speak it, but given how popular it is, I imagine someone on Earth has already run into another speaker randomly in person.
If you're talking online, then yeah it happens all the time.
It's crap, I can tell you that. My cousin studies in Moscow and came back for the summer. He visited us today and he was telling us how he hates it there because the entire system is messed up. He also kept saying there isn't a more racist and Nazi country on Earth than Russia.
Russia is the real source of fascism. As I mentioned elsewhere, today I met with an old colleague who lives in Russia. He repeats any/all political propaganda he sees on TV. Somewhere in-between his going on and on about how Obama's administration is comprised of a bunch of homosexuals, he mentions at one point that the Ukrainian government is full of Nazis. Then the next thing he starts talking about right after that is that western civilization is coming to an end because whites are not reproducing enough and as a result are being replaced by non-whites in USA and Europe.
Really it was an intriguing though horrifying confusion of ideas, courtesy of Russia.
Have fun
Go live there.
Imagine the ignorant dipshits of the CCP getting a say
How funny of you to suggest the CCP is entitled to name itself in English
I wouldn't call China's stance towards Taiwan "respect". Even so, I don't have an opinion whether it's part of China or not. Perhaps only Taiwanese people are qualified to say.
So I bothered to look up 中國共產黨 to see if your claim that CPC is proper and CCP isn't is true, and honestly it has no merit. Being pedantic about how best to translate it into English doesn't make you smart or more knowledgeable. Internet propagandists like you for the Chinese government (oh, you'd probably insist only "government of China" is correct) tend to use these kinds of childish irrelevant arguments to deflect attention away from things that matter. I've seen similar stupid arguments in official Chinese state propaganda.
There are some problems with the title and description of this community. First of all, Kashmir is not a part of India, so the Indian flag should not be displayed in the title. Second, the description falsely claims that Free Kashmir is "occupied" by Pakistan, when in fact it is India that is occupying Kashmir. India's occupation is violent and has made Kashmir one of the most heavily militarized zones in the world.
used vim for like twenty years and then switched to nano
(Note for those who downvoted me: Get a life, you weirdos. I'll use whatever editor I want.)
It may be all she has in life
I don't think Lemmy itself can have a culture. Specific servers can, like lemmy.ml, or even multiple servers forming some kind of a community, but as long as Lemmy is federated and dcentralized then it becoming popular is not going to hurt our community. People can always go form there own community and establish their own server.
I read in the news that Peter Bourgon was officially excommunicated from Go "community spaces". I'm curious if this community space, !golang@lemmy.ml, plans to comply with the ban. I think it would be useful to identify and support spaces that will not carry it out.

If you want you can use this image for the Lemmy community as well. There is a site that makes these for all country flags, and i prefer this version because compared to "flat" flag images, it's got a little bit of shading to make it visually pleasing. The file size is also impressively small.
Glad to see someone already created this sub. I hope it is managed well. I wanted to announce that I created the group "Free Palestine" on matrix.org
Hopefully we can collaborate with this community.
