  • AFAIK Gitea incorporated as a for-profit (which was supported), but there was some perceived(not intended to throw shade on any side here, just keeping it neutral) shady-ness from the perspective of the community. • Looking for a specific David Lynch interview

A couple of years ago I found an interview with David Lynch on Youtube. The interview is done by a, honestly, quite clueless interviewer. However, Lynch really goes a 100% on trying to explain stuff for the interviewer and it turns into one of the best descriptions of abstract cinema and it's process that I've ever heard. I would love to find this again, but I'm having great trouble.

    If I remember correctly:

    • It's done by a Japanese interviewer.
    • The interview is about Mulholland Drive, most likely done around its release.
    • The interviewer spends a lot of time trying to get Lynch to explain parts of the movie. Specific scenes, the plots etc. Lynch just keeps trying to explain that there's no true answer to those questions.
    • I did find some info that indicates it might have been included as an extra on one of the early releases of Mulholland, but haven't been able to verify.

What streaming services do you pay for?
  • The streaming services I do pay for are mostly music, or smaller stuff I want to support.

    • Spotify
    • Roon (not really a streamingservice, but it lets me stream my music?)
    • Nebula
    • Youtube premium
    • Draken film (Swedish streaming service for art/independent film)

I'm thinking about grabbing a Deezer or Tidal as well, as they integrate very well with Roon

  • Majority of gamers play with subtitles turned on
  • And I feel this is an escalating problem. Sound mixing is generally horrible in both games and movies/TV. Unless you blow out your speakers during the higher peaks, you've got no chance of hearing dialogue.

Does anyone have any clue to why this is such a well-spread phenomenon? Why is it like this? I mean, I get it (kinda) at a cinema, but I think it's way overplayed there as well.

  • Open source video games
  • A lot of good tips here, but you should have a look at Endless Sky! Really cool space game

  • Paid maternity leave is a thing
  • This is old and/or incorrect. Sweden should really be included, since we have 480 (~70 weeks) days of paid leave for one child. Finland and Denmark has 50 weeks, and Norway has 59.

In a household with two parents you get 240 days each, and if you're a single household you get all 480 days.

  • Reddit is restoring deleted posts
  • What script are you using to mass edit? Even if they revert it, I would like to try.

  • With Reddit officially going insane I am glad that I am here
  • Very much. This feels a bit like the internet of old, before we all got tunnelled into giant socmed monoliths.

  • Still, better than Emacs
  • Any other type of program is ruined the more accustomed you get to vim.

  • Spotify Alternative for streaming server
  • The only thing I can think of would be Roon. Some drawbacks though. It's proprietary and it's a paid service. It's very, very good for playing and streaming local music though. They put a lot of work in to their metadata, and do have recommendations in place. You can also get artists/songs/albums like this. There's no curated lists yet, but AFAIK it's in the pipeline.

I use it for all my local music. Both at-home and outside streaming work great. There's still some work for them to do with tagging more obscure styles correctly, like Future funk.

  • Uh oh, did he just get hired at Reddit?
  • F moment

  • Hello from kbin ^^
But yes, totally agree. I really like the atmosphere here. I've been keeping tabs on Fediverse ever since Matrix started becoming a thing, but this was the push I needed to get into it. And in many ways it feels like the internet of old, before we all consolidated to huge social media sites. But better. I like it.
