Casual game recommendations?
  • Definitely recommend Dorfromantik! Islanders is another super chill casual game (and also a builder) that I started and fell in love with the other day.

  • Windows 11 beta fixes major taskbar gripe, removes old File Explorer settings
  • Yeah, honestly. My PC is 10 years old (with the exception of my GPU) and still runs the games I play perfectly fine for the most part. If I didn't want to run them smoother at higher graphics settings, or especially if I didn't play games much at all, I'd have no reason to upgrade my PC. And yet I literally can't upgrade my current one to Windows 11 because it doesn't support TPM 2.0.

  • should we be discussing reddit less?
  • I think it'll die down on its own over time. I remember when I first joined Mastodon back in November, it felt like my entire feed was full of people who were migrating from Twitter but were still talking about Twitter this and Elon that, and eventually those people either left or found something else to talk about.

  • Whats a game that everybody seems to love that you cant stand for one reason or another?
  • Honestly, Stardew Valley for me. I've tried it a couple times and it just didn't work for me. I wanted to like it, and I like the idea of it, but in practice, I hated the time management aspect and not being able to just run around and do as much as I wanted in a day (I haven't played on PC with mods; I know there's at least one or two that let you change that). I also hated the fishing. 🙃

  • No interest; I won't be using anything by Meta. If the servers I'm on don't defederate from them, I'll just block the domain.

  • My cozy indoor garden spot
  • Wow wow wow. This looks so warm and inviting! I love all the wood, too! (And the corgi, of course 🙂)

  • What are you reading? (June 2023)
  • That's an interesting observation! If you do end up giving it a shot and it doesn't bother you as much via audio, you definitely won't be disappointed in the narrator (IMO). 🙂 (Then again, I feel like I'm really picky about audiobook narrators for some reason, haha).

  • I'm hopeful for that too! Besides upvotes, I'm already more active here than I ever was on Reddit.

  • Hey there! Mid-30s and was diagnosed level 1 ASD a few years ago, which I feel like explained a lot about myself. Besides depression/anxiety, I tend to struggle with concepts and things that aren't well defined, and with some aspects of communication. I liked math and science classes in school because there were formulas and rules and a right answer to the problem. I have a harder time with more open-ended or creative tasks, especially when there are expectations attached to the outcome.

I wanted to poke my head in, introduce myself and say hi, and I'm sure I'll visit here occasionally. But I'll admit I haven't been big on joining in on neurodivergence spaces in the past — partially because it's not personally a term I use for myself, and partially because I don't always agree with the discourse from the loudest voices (or sometimes things that it feels like everyone else agrees on), so I don't always feel like I fit in.

  • Very much same here re: having a lot of trouble with loosely defined social concepts vs easier times with more tightly defined ones. The concept of gender, for example, is something that's clearly important and meaningful to a lot of people, but I don't know that I'll ever understand it myself (so I've just landed on a point of acceptance that it matters to others). (Apologies if I'm off topic and you meant something totally different!)

  • What are you reading? (June 2023)
  • Aah that's so rough, I'm sorry to hear that! I'm terrified of spiders IRL but fortunately it doesn't extend much to other media 😅

Is it the Final Architecture trilogy that's his new one? I've got the first book on my to-read list, but haven't gotten to it yet. It doesn't look like the audiobook has the same narrator as the Children of Time books, though, which is a bummer!

  • Apple reveals “Reality Pro” AR/VR headset, available for $3,499 “early next year”
  • In turn, it’ll push other manufacturers to up their game and make the best AR/VR headsets they can.

That's definitely what I'm hoping to see! The competition can only be a good thing.

  • Apple reveals “Reality Pro” AR/VR headset, available for $3,499 “early next year”
  • Definitely not on board with the $3499 price tag, so I won't be a first-gen adopter, but this is the first AR/VR headset that's actually made me want one, so I'm looking forward to seeing what the whole landscape looks like in a few years once (hopefully/maybe) prices have come down a bit.

  • What are you reading? (June 2023)
  • I usually have a print/ebook and an audio book (for the car) going at the same time.

For print book, currently reading Crooked Kingdom, one of the books in the Grishaverse series/world. I, uh, got a little obsessed after watching the first season of Shadow and Bone a year or two ago.

For audiobook, currently listening to Children of Ruin. Not too far into it yet, but I loved loved loved Children of Time (also listened to the audiobook version), so I'm excited to see where this one goes.

  • Thanks for reminding me of The World Ends With You! I played it once a number of years ago and remember loving it. I'm probably due for a replay at this point :)

  • Oh man. I haven't played Minesweeper in SO long. Putting that on my list to play this weekend. There was a time that it'd just be the default thing I'd open up on my computer if I was just looking to kill a little time.

  • Top 5:

    • Life Is Strange
    • Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
    • Guild Wars 2
    • Spyro the Dragon trilogy (definite nostalgia and the remakes knocked it outta the park)
    • PokĂ©mon Silver/Gold/Crystal

Edit: how could I forget about ROCK BAND! So much time spent playing that with friends. Even now, once a year or so we get a group of people together, plug in our external hard drives and set up a ton of songs to play, set up all the instruments, and make a whole day of it.
