“This update reinforces our culture that fosters discipline — and discipline equals readiness,” Michael R. Weimer, the sergeant major of the Army, said in the statement
Threatening to kick out 40,000 people doesn't equal readiness.
A 2021 study in the journal Military Medicine said that grooming techniques and topical medications could be effective in treating mild-to-moderate cases of pseudofolliculitis barbae, but more severe cases responded best to laser therapy. Long-term shaving exemptions “may be needed for treatment-resistant cases,” the study said.
I saw many cases first-hand that did not resolve with topical treatments and would have led to scarring unless a permanent waiver was granted. Laser treatment is a terrible compromise on this issue - would you permanently alter yourself to conform to the standards or would you say "Fuck that" and get out when your contract ends?
With how bad the military as a whole is hurting for people, I'm surprised they're threatening more bullshit like this.
I had some weird issues with my 3080 Ti on Fedora 41 and 42 and have recently switched to a 9070 XT.
Most games ran fine, but other programs acted strange while games were open. Space Engineers, Escape from Tarkov, and a couple other titles wouldn't allow me to use other programs. The cursor would stay the same as in-game, even when alt-tabbed, and the Discord UI would become unresponsive.
I had several strange issues with my monitor flickering that didn't resolve until I uninstalled and reinstalled my drivers.
I had a horrible issue with Minecraft and other OpenGL games that caused a strobing white screen while playing. I forgot how I resolved that one.
I had to reinstall drivers several times. I don't know how much of it was self-inflicted or just how it goes on Linux.
None of these issues have come up while on my 9070 XT.
As far as my understanding:
Repositories are like lists of available programs. F-droid will update periodically, but will not catch a fresh update or new program until the repo is updated.
People here don't like Nintendo for their treatment of modders and emulator devs. Nintendo is a very litigious company and shuts down any fun project related to their IP.
Space Engineers. I set up a server for me and my friends with a few mods.
So far, we have an undefended asteroid with a ton of resources and production capabilities. It was attacked recently by a small pirate ship but I fought it off.
I'm in the process of making a large nomad ship - a mobile base.
Oh how cool would it be if it could sync regions of the world as the ISS flies over and you get a projected image of what it really looks like
