  • This is kind of a tautological answer. Of course it's as often as I want, but what do I want? I had that question when I started making my own decisions on my hair. I was never fully happy with how things looked and haven't figured out how to style it the way I like. What part of it was I unhappy with? I couldn't tell. Would more frequent hair cuts help? Or less frequent so it spends more time in that slightly grown out state and I have more consistent hair to work with? And so many other questions.

If you know that most people get their hair cut after X weeks, then that gives you a starting point to experiment with instead of going into it completely blind.

  • go where the consensus is

I'm pretty sure that's what most people are doing already. If everyone around you says climate change is a hoax, then that sure sounds like a consensus.

This is one of those questions that keeps nagging at me. I have the resources to actually go and learn about things and build a sufficiently large world model to filter out a lot of BS. But in areas that I'm less well versed in and that aren't covered by my world model, I realize that I have no idea who the experts are or how to find the consensus without doing tons of reading. If I've read enough to determine the consensus position, then I'll have absorbed enough of the material that I can be considered somewhat of an expert myself. So how can I possibly convince someone else without making them go through that whole process themselves? You probably don't have an answer to this, but any ideas are welcome too if you happen to have any to share.

  • Summary: If you only have an hour per week to work out and want to make the most of it

    • Avoid time consuming set ups and weight switching (e.g. opt for dumbbells and machines with weight stacks over barbells)
    • Train multiple groups at once with compound exercises
    • Train harder and go to failure more often
    • Actually, train even harder and get closer to or past failure with drop sets

Nothing revolutionary here, but the advice is sound, and it's coming from a pretty reputable guy. Why is it getting so many downvotes? They're not saying this would be easy (and from experience, I can tell you it isn't), nor that it's a good way for beginners to get started.

    Although...

you can get in and out of the gym in around 20 minutes. Do that 3 days a week

That might be a tad unrealistic. It takes five minutes to change and put away your bags. That leaves you with 10min to do your workout. Not worth it. Better to just do a full hour once a week and supplement with some bodyweight exercises at home.

  • One thing that stood out to me was that none of their agents performed well on boxing or pong, but in my experience, these are the two easiest tasks in the entire Atari suite. They're the games I use as quick sanity checks. How did they manage that?
