  • I think the problem is just how you define "weather". Cloud seeding can improve the probability of rain in a specific small area. But it's not viable for changing large scale weather patterns, and requires specific environmental conditions to be effective. So there's a vast difference between creating a hurricane, for example, and generating a localised rain cloud.

  • It's because you are using a VPN. You always get a ton more captchas when using a VPN on some websites. Mainly because they don't want you using one, so you can be tracked for ads.

  • It's not much of a conspiracy tbh, the science on cloud seeding has been published and is publicly available. You might be getting mixed up between cloud seeding, geoengineering, and chemtrails. See this article for the difference between those terms. Tldr is that chemtrails are a conspiracy theory, climate engineering isn't yet in use (though it's being researched to help mitigate climate change) and cloud seeding is in regular use.

  • No idea, but it's pretty scummy how the republicans can ruin so many people's lives just by making their crazy claims.

  • Yeah it's been manageable on our instance so far. I'd say our admin team manage most of the reports if the community mods don't get to them within an hour or two. Works well for smaller instances, but I can see how it wouldn't scale well at LWs size.

  • That's no kids toy btw, it's a fairly expensive Motorola radio for clarification.

  • Hard agree. All we get from the Democrats is more of the same economically and military, but with some feel good identity politics (i.e. that don't in any way threaten corpos, just provide more markets) and socially progressive vibes. Still better than the alternative sure, but they are just sprinkling glitter on a turd to make it look appealing. There's zero interest towards actually addressing social/financial inequality, reigning in the power of corpos, separating money from politics, or basically changing the economic status quo in any meaningful way. It's a sad state of affairs, and absolutely no wonder leftists aren't enthused to vote for Harris. It's basically a vote for keeping things exactly as they are now, which is not what voters want at all. US politics is so corrupted by money now that a government of the people for the people is just a distant memory. And this talk of reforming the electoral college is just more window dressing, seems to me.

  • But as far as I'm concerned, they absolutely should be spending that sort of money on helping migrants in need

  • I'm wondering if it was just because you have alts? But it's not against any rules to have alts afaik so long as you're not doing vote manipulation etc. And yours are clearly identifiable which is another point in your favour here. If you want me to reach out to the mod who banned you on your behalf, just let me know. They might not answer me, but it's maybe worth a shot.

  • There a whole article about Russian disinformation on this topic here. They certainly did have a pact with the Nazis. Your argument is basically "it didn't happen, but if it did then it the West forced us into it" which is a 100% classic disinformation line. It's like when Putin says there is no war with Ukraine, but if there is it's because the West forced us to do it.

  • I know I don't like your post history.

  • Is this some conspiracy theory or can you supply credible sources?

  • "What sane person could live in this world and not be crazy?" - Ursula K. Le Guin

    Have you considered moving?

  • Well at least it gives us some idea of their politics.

  • FYI - 42 downvotes and 320 upvotes so far = 278 (87% ratio of upvotes/downvotes)

  • Good question... US still unprepared for Russian election interference, Robert Mueller says. I'm not a policy wonk, but it's clear to me that while media literacy and awareness campaigns have some level of utility, they are not sufficient to move the dial for the general public. Especially in the US, the people repeating Russian disinformation talking points are in fact often aware of this, but because those talking points are an effective way of attacking their domestic opponents, they just don't seem to care whether what they are saying is true or not.

  • If you know of anything similar in other countries, please let me know and I'll add it to my list of sources.

  • That's a pretty good summation, imo. Democrats really don't want to hear anything about the ethics of sending US arms to Israel while it conducts a genocide right now. Their mentality is something like, "let's get Kamala elected, and don't point to any negatives until afterwards". But the fact is, once Harris is elected (if she wins), she will have very little incentive to change her policy on this issue. This small pre-election window is really the only opportunity available for leftists to campaign for her to change her stance. The activists still "harping on" about this issue recognize that and are doing their best to put pressure on her campaign. Arguably, they are running an ethically principled campaign, assuming their motives are good (i.e., stop the genocide). I get the whole "lesser of two evils" concept and have some sympathy for it, but I also understand why this single important issue is a complete dealbreaker for many leftists.

Having said all that, your disclaimer note about Linkerbaan's checks out. They are problematic because they do repeat a lot of Russian disinfo talking points, and in classic tankie fashion don't seem to have any issues with Russia's invasion of Ukraine while at the same time condemning US support of Israel's genocide. Personally, I feel that a principled person should be against genocide and war crimes no matter who is conducting them, otherwise they are just a partisan propagandist. But it seems most MLs on lemmy just can't bring themselves to level any sort of criticism against Russia, China, North Korea or Iran (to name a few), even when it is entirely justified, because of their "critical support" groupthink towards any anti-US/anti-Western state.

If any poster seems to be totally ignoring or justifying genocide and war crimes committed by AES countries, but campaigning relentlessly against "US funded genocide" then personally I think it's justified to ban them as they are clearly engaging in partisan propaganda. While it's hard to know 100% for sure what linkerbaan's true motivations are, I'd agree there are a number of red flags in their post history.
