  • C'mon, you can't say no matter how its cooked. You sure I can't interest you in some fried asparagus with a cheese-based sauce? Yeah, any nutritional value you're getting out of them is pretty much ruined, but who cares.

  • I mean, depending on what part of the U.S. you are in, the water you're drinking might not actually be clean.

You shouldn't have to preface your statement with anything, living conditions in some American states are legitimately comparable to third world impoverished nations.

  • Right but our country just elected a fascist who wants to install himself as dictator for life, so how do we actually move towards implementation of any of those things considering neither are supported by the ruling party or the corporations that have fully entrapped our government?

Better find out the answer to that question quickly too, because it's coming for your country next.

  • Why do you think Americans gave up on cable? It wasn't because of sports, we still love those and go through way too many dogshit streaming services to watch them. Our shows are so trash even we don't wanna watch them.

  • because it ignores the fact that there are people with significant mental illnesses that have been failed by the status quo who are still able to receive help through therapy.

The comment only makes sense if you assume therapy is like the strawman presented in the greentext. Broadly speaking, there is widespread evidence that therapy is effective in helping people with mental illnesses survive and thrive in modern society. It's not just for liberal elites to chat about their first world problems, even if that group is most likely to be scammed by an unqualified therapist. Unqualified therapists do exist, just like there's shitty doctors and shitty dentists, because capitalism incentivizes shitty people to go into these fields for profit, but they're a minority in an underutilized and stigmatized system.

  • I'd add another difference: way more idiots. Back in the day, that idea that everything on the internet needed to be taken with a grain of salt was incredibly widespread. It was one of the bedrocks of internet culture, and it'd get memed to death.

Now, the number of people who view everything on the internet as gospel truth has surpassed the number of healthy skeptics.

  • Yeah, because Western cultures have realized that trying to compromise with people on concepts like "human rights" and "medical requirements" doesn't work. There is no room for agreement with someone who thinks "abortions are always immoral." They're wrong. We know this because we value human life.

You're so close to realizing that Christian ideology is fundamentally intolerant and wrong, but are getting so weirdly hung up on this idea of "but what if killing women is actually based? shouldn't they be allowed?" No. We can be intolerant of people who have been intolerant of science-based thinking for centuries. It's actually the only way society can progress forward.

  • The thing is, the boomers of the past were wrong because none of that media was promoting violence. They were making it up.

The Tiktok algorithm promotes violence as a fast-pass to fame. It rewards people for making abhorrent trends with clicks.

  • I would argue that Citizen's United effectively made it impossible for non-elites to meaningfully effect the US political process, forcing us down a road where only those who can raise the most money are considered eligible for political office.

  • Really excited for this. Skyrim doesn't have the greatest combat system, but Oblivion is the bastard middle child between Morrowind's dice rolls and Skyrim's more free system. Trying to go back to it now, even heavily modded, is really rough, but the world and stories told in Oblivion are a lot better than the constant radiant fiesta of Skyrim.

  • Ronald Reagan.

Also, while I've got control of the wishfish, I need it to happen paradoxically. I need him to both get turned to ash at the end of his life, so he knows why he deserves it, and before he's able to collude with Iran.

  • It's been an open oligarchy since Citizen's United. Seems like a lot of people are just now seeing the effects of what that decision allowed. Our Supreme Court was already corrupt, but because they at least maintained an air of dignity, people just looked past the death of our democracy.
