  • This particular type of helmet is a 16th century "Armet" which is a style of closed helm. There are typically 2 types of closed helms, one is actually just called a "closed helm. "

An armet has cheek plates that close around your head to form the bevor (bit that protects your chin and neck to fully protect your head.

A "Close helm" has a single hinge point that the visor and bevor hinge on to close onto your face.

    It's interesting stuff!

  • Typically it was about heraldry/house colors. It goes with the outfit. I did consider putting a white one or 2 in there as well.

If I want I can always wear different colors too.

  • Thank'ee kindly! I would love to someday get sponsored by one of the vendors of this stuff and do reviews and content creation for this stuff. Would love to turn this passion into a way to earn a living instead of breaking my body in a factory.

I really appreciate your kind words!

  • Had to use my front facing camera with a timer and then had to crop it.

Ya gotta do, what ya gotta do :( there's better pics of me in garb on my profile. This was a test fitting to see how it all worked and how my mobility was. Hence the jammies under the armor lol.

  • Oh, also what I am wearing under the breastplate is a padded textile armor called a gambeson. Adds more protection and padding. Good stuff!

  • Just fashion I am guessing. Knights still occaisionally had their armor painted from time to time as people still like color, but bare armor was just more in style.

  • Is that new? I've posted here so many times without the OC tag and never git removed before.

  • Basically a surcoat and my hood that I'd normally pair with the armor.

It wasn't until the late 14th-15th century and beyond that bare armor was the fashion.

Here's my kit before I bought the breastplate and leg harness, and also the helmet I intend to wear with this kit.

I am getting a plume holder installed and then I will paint it to match!

  • I don't believe I am a Dwarf, cousin of Gimli, and companion of Thorin OakenShield, who later perished in an attempt to reclaim Khazad Dum.

    Jk. Thanks!

  • Possibly? I don't have access to 3d printing tho

  • I can't imagine how much hassle it would be to make an entire shirt of 3d printed chainmail

Trying to make this crown a bit more metallic/realistic. I used rustoleum metallic gold, and it's not quite the effect I was looking for.
