  • Local judges tend to be elected from the district they are in and while they're not part of a political party per se they run on a platform of being tough on crime or light on drug infractions or that kind of thing. Seeing how the political parties in America are so polarized ideologically that essentially leads to conservative judges being elected in conservative districts.

For higher state courts and federal courts a judge is nominated by the executive branch, and then confirmed or denied by the legislative branch. What started as an attempt at balance between the arms of government has just lead to more tribalism to further agendas.

  • Yeah I'm not sure where Amercia factors into a protest in South Korea, about Japan, as reported on by a journalism company based in the UK.

  • Both of those can be true.

  • Away from the edutainment and tech based stuff, I like Decino. Just a guy that really likes playing old school Doom. He doesn't do the whole exaggerated reactions or yelling or anything like that and I don't think I've ever heard him plug any kind of sponsor or product. It's great to put on in the background or just watch casually if you're into it

  • The fluoride in toothpaste creates fluorapatite in your teeth which is harder than your regular enamel and more resistant to acids.

  • Many people believe that creating the universe was also a bad move.

  • I also enjoy the good work you've been doing and will be watching your career with great interest.

  • Democracy lives off of discourse between opposing views.

The inference here is that both views are of equivalent merit which is very much not true. This idea is called The Paradox of Tolerance. If a society is tolerant without limit, its ability to be tolerant is eventually ceased or destroyed by the intolerant.

  • Agreed. Tankies are right-wing authoritarians in that communism is supposed to be stateless. They bitch about US imperialism but are always very quiet about China's actions in Africa. It's frustrating because like I get it. America has some pretty deep problems but to think that somehow it is worse than China is mindlessly reactionary.

  • For real. The tankie problem here is crazy. I can say something like China is trying to deny freedom of navigation of international waters on the South China Sea and somehow it becomes "BuT aMeRiCa". I don't get it.

  • They probably didn't know it was illegal to be honest. This was a judge magistrate which is a very low level judge . Not excusing it, just, as the saying goes: never attribute to malice what is adequately explained by stupidity.

  • You sound like a weird tomato version of Gaston.

  • Does the Dragonborn have an option for a cloaca?

  • Worst they can do is deny me entry to the country

Well the worst they can do is

Put me on a no-fly list, terrorist watchlist or even arrest me

Not having jurisdiction has famously never stopped China. Just ask Tibet. Or any country that wants to sail international waters in the south China sea. Or Hong Kong. Or Taiwan.

Lastly, You are correct about China not sharing data with FVEY countries but don't think for a second that they are not sharing that info with Russia, Iran, or any other countries that actively seek to harm.

If a country is going to in some way use my data against me, I'd at least like to know the language and what my rights in that country are.

  • You jest but honestly if I'm going to be spied on and my data harvested either way I'd prefer if it was my home country. At least Theoretically something could be done about it like petition my elected officials or sue. Can't really do that with a foreign country.

  • I love it. This is crazy. Like, refreshing crazy. Not "I regard Trans people as subhuman trash that needs to be taken out. Also I have a lot of guns" crazy. I want to hear about how the jews are secretly alien lizard people next.

  • There is no way I could handle Subnautica in VR. I was scared enough playing normally.
