  • It will always blow my mind that the <$950 people on SSI get every month is somehow supposed to sustain them. I'm lucky that I get SSDI but even though I'm making 1.5x the SSI benefit, I'm still drowning in expenses. And I can't do any work or I risk losing my income. I wish they'd just let me work a couple hours a month with zero risk to being kicked off disability. It would save so much money in their other benefit pots that I do qualify for.

But yay, so glad they're using realistic math to determine an appropriate cost of living adjustment. That 2.5% will go a long way - I could afford the gas to drive to the doctor 2 extra times! Or I could buy 4 bananas! The possibilities are endless.

  • It's been fun. I've had it for a few months and I love it. Currently trying to figure out why my PDFs get corrupted and how to fix it - I'm pretty sure it has to do with signatures but not completely sure. The other thing is that I was having trouble figuring out how to hibernate my computer, so it was sleeping all the time (except when off or in use), but then one day it just started hibernating. Not sure how that happened.

I chose Fedora with the KDE desktop and it's great. I'm not entirely sure I understand the differences in the desktop choices but it works for me for now.

I'm trying to get my partner to switch but they're worried about it not being compatible with/not being able to find suitable replacements for certain Windows software used for work. So basically I just need to get better with Linux before they switch lol

  • That...blows my mind. Wow.

It sounds like you have left the hospital though - if so, I am really glad you are doing better. That situation sounds terrifying. When I started reading I thought maybe from a dental procedure - I never considered it could happen from cheek biting. That's good information to have.

  • This is fair. I think the prices I am most annoyed by are for the pregnancy test and the ondansetron. But you're right, I am very glad it wasn't something serious (especially since they ruled out a kidney stone - that's not something I want to deal with again lol). The one thing I am grateful for is that I don't have to pay before they will help. I don't think it's like that everywhere and it's definitely not like that for my pets either, which I could also spend time complaining about but I will refrain lol

  • I aspire to be like you! I finally am going to have a DVD player and I am absolutely THRILLED. No joke. It's going to be fantastic.

Not as fantastic as an old VCR since it's like 2% harder to fast forward through the ads. But pretty close!

  • I would love to know also. They are all spoken here for sure (quite a large population of people who speak the languages I listed) but what confuses me is the area codes are usually not my region for these calls.

  • The number of people in my town that think our language is American, Mexicans speak Mexican, all Asian people are Chinese, and any random combination of cities/countries are part of the United States makes this very plausible.

  • Yeah but it used to not be ignored so now me and this random person with my name basically share an email address. We don't get each other's emails all that often somehow. We first chatted years ago when I got an important email for a job she applied for (soon after they started ignoring the dots), and she seemed decent so I didn't change it. Definitely a huge risk but here we are.
