  • I think the original point form the original comment was that there are several symbiotic relationships in nature, that could fit with the prompt.

    I think I have an idea of what you are looking for, but if such a bacteria did evolve to improve our health then humans would have evolved traits alongside it to ensure it would pass on to the next generation which would just become part of our normal health at that point, just like gut flora.

    Cows have a stomach specifically to hold digestive bacteria. Rabbit have a part of their intestines for bacteria to digest plant material, Elephants, hippos and a few other species developed behaviour when young to eat the poop of thier parents to get bacteria essential to digesting. Even nitrogen fixing plants often have adaptions to host the nitrogen-fixing bacteria in their roots.

    If there is a benefit to the bacteria, then there is evolutionary pressure to obtain it between generations.
