I usually see people saying the batteries will catch fire and the toxic gasses will kill everyone within 3 miles. Like many NIMBY complaints, they are barely based in reality and blown away out of proportion.
I've seen a dozen or so grid scale battery projects local to me in the NE. The majority are hung up in litigation with local NIMBY opposition.
The scale of the opposition always surprises me, I can't help but wonder how much is grassroots vs anti-renewable lobby.
A place I worked at had a "union scare" as management called it. They forced everybody to watch anti-union propaganda video. It was tough to stifle the laughs because it was so cartoonish and infantilizing. Management keep eyeing the employees during the whole thing.
I was a bit conflicted with the success of Bambu because they indicated their consumer hostility somewhat early on. I'd much prefer that for a company that furthers the ecosystem and encourages openness like Prusa or Ultimaker.
Bambu kept making super compelling products though. I'm hoping that they see this as an opportunity to repent and reshape the company. It feels like they're more likely to dig in their heels. Luckily this controversy is before they could really establish monopoly like Adobe.
When I got the promotion, they started sending whiny emails up the management chain. My immediate supervisor that I worked with to get the promotion was then put under scrutiny and essentially told "make this problem go away". It ended up with my supervisor having to give the coworker a detailed report on all of the reasons they didn't get the promotion and I did, leading to a tense work environment.
I can easily imagine this coworker doing the same shit if they heard my salary. There are two main reasons that I keep quiet:
I have been walking on eggshells around that coworker since the original incident. It changed the work vibe from focused and fun to petty and defensive. I really don't want it to get worse.
My supervisor really advocated for me to get the promotion and I don't want a good deed to be punished.
I do advocate for raises for my coworkers to them and to my supervisor, and I wouldn't feel hesitant to state actual numbers if it weren't for that troublesome coworker.
I might just be neurotic about this, idk. It just really sucked when they got butt-hurt and made my work life way more stressful.
I'm all for comparing salaries and I've done so for my previous jobs, but my current job has left me concerned to discuss openly. I've been struggling internally about it.
Long story short is that one of my coworkers is a real malcontent that made a huge fuss when I got a promotion. They are the reason that I don't state my pay when I encourage my other coworkers to seek higher wages and coach them on negotiating raises. I'm worried that the sourpuss won't use the information as a tool to improve their own situation and instead cause more trouble for me.
That sounds like a fun experimentation platform.
Power shouldn't be a problem except for the bill, the PSUs are meant to be redundant rather than for combined output. You probably won't draw more than 300 watts most of the time. The drive controller probably has staggered spin-up to prevent over current conditions.
The bigger factor in my experience is the noise, expect a jet engine during boot and a dull roar the rest of the time. SuperMicro boards often allow you to set the fans lower, but the PSUs will be loud all the time.
If I were you, I'd install TrueNAS or ProxMox and play around with it. You may be able to triage the issues.
You may need to set the drive controllers to HBA mode or flash an HBA firmware to them.
It's probably not worth running long term with SandyBridge, power to performance is pretty bad.
Haha, I watched the David Lynch Dune after I really enjoyed the new one and was flabbergasted by the weirding modules. It was a fun watch though!
