I never really understood the rationale either, but we are talking about shitty colorbond rooves. For non Aussies that's a tin roof, western Sydney new developments are plagued by this, a dystopia of zero trees, houses with dark rooves that almost touch each other and surprise surprise, temperature breaking new records every summer.
Why it is more expensive to make a tin roof of a light colour rather than dark is beyond me. Why the government would give a fuck about greedy developers margins even less, but I have a theory.
Find some volunteering group, you'll get tradition, community and being part of something bigger, prolly not the music though. Where I am we are big into Emergency services, they are mostly run by volunteers but really you can find whatever works for you from animal shelters to helping people with personal finance if that's your niche. , No need to waste time idolatring an imaginary friend that doesn't reciprocate, you can do some actual good and feel good!
I've had some real howlers the other way though (with actual scammers) so I understand the frustration, one woman who was obviously a spam PPE caller yelled at me "don't you like money!" after I had politely declined,and there's no dealing with that.
If I can, I keep them on the phone until they hung up on me frustrated. More often than not I can, I used to wfh and be able, in between meetings, to keep them going for a while, while doing my actual work.
"Can you spell that url again? No it says page not found" or "of course I want a refund for that iPhone, what do I need to do". All while typing my work emails, chatting with colleagues or working on a slide deck.
Nowadays I'm looking after young babies full time. So even easier to apologise for the background noise and ask them to repeat their whole spiel for a fourth time.
