That's a lot of questions :-) Quick answers:

• It's being paid by donations (see homepage for links)
• It's owned by me and run by a team of sysadmins/mods
• I might think of a non-profit for all my Fediverse servers one day. For now I'm using my BV (dutch company).
• Still looking into the legal stuff, also for Mastodon. Working with https://about.iftas.org

Server is performing nicely. NTP (timesyncd) is running. I have no idea how to see federation queues. Please contact me on matrix @ruud:h-y-p-e-r.space if you want to troubleshoot together.

I think the current hardware for Lemmy.world should handle maybe 1M users, if the Lemmy software is tuned. If it should grow more, we need to look into horizontal scaling with Kubernetes.

But hopefully there will be more and more servers so the users can be spread more.

I did it in the database, so if you can access your database I can assist.

Well this is a hobby. One of many hobbies I have. But at the moment the one taking up most time. But that's why I'm looking for a team. Some to help me admin my servers, some to moderate. The bigger the team, the less work for each, and the more coverage of timezones etc.

But that's a work in progress.

Nah.. It's only 27GB of images right now. I have around 800GB space, and can have disks (cheap HDDs in case of images) added to the server. Also pictrs will support S3 in the newer version. But good that you're all thinking with me!
