  • It's not that bad today to be honest.

It's still not at all the game that they originally sold people pre-release though. If you go into it thinking that you're going to be getting an action looter-shooter with some interesting mechanics and great visuals then you'll get pretty much what you're expecting.

Going into it buying CDPR's line about it being the "next generation of open-world gaming" and "Evolution of RPG's" or whatever crap they were spewing, will leave a sour taste in your mouth.

The main campaign and side-mission storylines are just flat-out great though.

CDPR have always been good at doing the storytelling side of things, and that didn't really change with Cyberpunk.

Total fraud on release though, especially on console. Fuck them for what they did there.

For transparency, I'm referring to how it is currently on PC, where you also get mods if you want them. I couldn't comment on the console experience as I haven't played it.

Definitely wait for a sale though if you do one day go for it, I don't think it's good enough for the full price. Too many things are still lacking, although the upcomming DLC may fix that (which still means paying extra to fix the shit that should have been in the base game since release... Yeah).

  • The mod's response to Reddit, in case people don't want to go there:

According to them, your favourite subreddits going NSFW is too much for you to understand. The infamous Mod Code of Conduct messaged us, demanding we switch back, because “you’re likely confused by all the NSFW content you’ve been seeing”.

They didn’t allow us to reply, so we couldn’t explain that this is a subreddit for an 18+ game, nor has any of our content changed. This subreddit should have been NSFW already, but we’d never thought to change it until recently.

Until we change it back we’re in violation of Reddit’s sitewide rules. We’re not going to change it back, because this is a sexually explicit game, and also fuck them.

If we’re removed at least we got to go out on an fantastically fun flair event (don’t worry this won’t stop your flair from being added I promise), and if this sub changes back from NSFW then you know you’re no longer in control of it.

Rest assured; we have 77 fans all over Reddit, with r/lowsodiumcyberpunk being a decent fall back. We’ve never worked together on anything, but we’ve made an effort to stay on good terms with one another, and I trust them to take care of you all.

Edit: this has hit r/all choombas so assume there are a lot of people here just to feed on the drama

Some time after posting this here, the mods added a second edit:

Edit: since hitting r/all there have been a bunch of accounts created in the last month attacking us and defending Reddit admins with a vigour I’ve never seen before. That seems suspicious, at the very least

So it seems that someone (probably Reddit themselves) caught wind of this and attempted to astroturf it with bots... Now who's recently been caught doing that?

See c4's post below for a Teddit link of the whole thread: https://kbin.social/m/RedditMigration/t/144077/Reddit-threatens-the-mods-of-r-CyberpunkGame-the-main-subreddit-for#entry-comment-559801

  • I get what you're saying, sure. But I don't see how they'll remotely end up less pissed off if you take the situation as it already is and then revoke their "rights" to use social media.

This is just going to make a lot of really angry people a lot more angry.

Plus, I can guarantee you that people actually organizing on social media will immediately switch to some non-blocked online means of doing so. Trying to handle that would be an impossible game of whack-a-mole.

  • It was funny then, and it's funny now.

You do know that rightwing fuckwits actively use people like you as a recruiting tool to show people examples of "how idiotic and heavy handed the left is" when giving them reasons to join up for their Hitlerjerk wank-ring organizations.

They literally make compilations of examples like this to create the narrative that the opposition has lost their minds and are coming for everyone's free speech with their cancel culture, and use this to argue that somehow nazism is clearly the reasonable choice in contrast.

And as ludicrous as that is, it actually works depressingly well.

A certain willingness to have a sense of humour is a worthwhile thing to have when online. Nobody is being threatened by a reference to a joke about the console wars and the PC Vs Console circlejerk.

Plus, I have a really good gaming rig, and I tell you, those console peasants have it coming anyway. :P

  • So, is Spez finally beginning to realize just how badly Reddit shat the bed here then? Ha, good luck to them, their insanity just spawned eventual competitors and made a LOT of their userbase realize many things about Reddit that they weren't happy with at all.

Enjoy watching your site and it's IPO slowly collapse then. Time for something better.

  • I'm not telling anyone to do anything, I'm stating my opinion about what I think works and why.

    Different things.

And since you mentioned 196. It's still a decent example. I have 196 blocked because for me it's just noise that I don't want to see, because for me the content there has zero value.

The fact that I can block it completely (for me), get the result that I want and yet have that not effect anyone else's use of it at all is literally a good thing.

I personally find the entire sub worthless because of the almost total noise to signal ratio problems there, but that's personal preference on my part only, which I'm entitled to and merely means that I don't personally find the place useful. Having these sorts of things separate means that it works for everyone regardless of their preferences.

Also, If I did still wish to see 196 occasionally, I can choose to either just go there, or unblock it temporarily, and nothing I'm doing effects anyone else at all.

None of this is telling others what they're allowed to do, it's the opposite.

196 is a practically random community anyway, it's chaos and there's no real way to "drown out" the content internally with memes or anything because the memes are just as much the content there as anything else could be.

  • That used to be true until they made the insane move of self-hosting all of the images and videos using i.reddit and v.reddit rather than continuing the previous practice of everyone posting all of the media to imgur and youtube, etc.

They just had to own everything themselves, even if it meant giving themselves running costs that would inevitably climb to youtube-like expenses because of all of the media streaming.

    Pure madness.

  • I found that, for me at least, memes on reddit were generally a negative aspect in most subs focussed on discussion.

They worked really well though when you had the main sub basically ban memes, but spawn a secondary sub specifically for them.

You get the best of both worlds there, where people can either take them or leave them, and the main sub doesn't end up with a massive noise to signal problem.

  • Wow, nice write-up.

I've needed something with this level of detail for a couple of weeks or so now to get my head around exactly how this fits together.

I knew the broad strokes but not the details.

I'll be saving this, it's a great primer reference.
