The local Albertan!

Former Flashpoint Archive staff member. Trans woman and Demisexual.

Enjoys local history, open data, Canadian politics, retro video games, and cooking (mmmm, perogies).

  • You can't really do anything diplomatic when the other side continually showcases they lack any respect for diplomacy whatsoever.

The moment the man in charge literally called himself an idiot when asking who'd ever sign a deal like CUSMA, it was an admission that they don't care. We got hit with tariffs for reasons that weren't based on facts. We got rid of the digital services tax as a concession already. We already had the CRTC roll back a decision to triple financial contributions to Canadian content from online streaming services. Then came the Gordie Howe Bridge dispute where we made concessions for tolls on a bridge we paid for. We were going to concede even more with the removal of alcohol bans.

Yet, it's just now that Carney and the Liberals realise that this isn't worth it? Any progressive in this country could have told you this from the get go.

  • Cool, so what we already knew was going to happen, happened.

Colour me shocked. Glad to know we wasted so much time trying to negotiate with what may as well be a bunch of shit-flinging apes when we could have been putting more focus in more deals with the EU, establishing CANZUK, and literally any other endeavour that doesn't include the U.S..

  • Cool, we're just throwing those struggling with addiction under the bus for a cheap shot in order to... shit on an independent news publication?

  • I too hate small local news publishers for seemingly no reason

  • I RESPONDED TO THE WRONG COMMENT NOOO

  • chews roof shingle

No reason, you have insurance, right?

  • I've been getting into My Chemical Romance a lot more as of late.

    Aside from that, Shiloh.

  • Being mindful of others, almost to the point of it being debilitating at times.

Was hanging out with friend from out of town and their parents recently, and I suggested we go to ice cream parlour after a meal. They were all too full, but when I decided to change my mind seeing it would just be about me if we went, they insisted we go regardless.

It was embarrassing enough to me that we were cutting out their time for something that'd only benefit me, but it only got worse when the place I suggested had an unusually long line that they insisted we stay in despite me saying I wouldn't want to waste their time.

I know it was done because they wanted to treat me, but an experience like that is just against the values I live by.

  • After repaying a friend for assistance he's given, I'd likely buy a condo in an older downtown highrise, a good quality gaming PC, and a Vtuber model so I can start up a regular Owncast stream.

  • Thanks random internet stranger! I will now proceed to define my entire personality to your whims. Please enlighten me with what true music is!

Lol get a life and be miserable somewhere else.

  • I don't have a Google account. I'm avoiding Google in general, but even when I want to make an account for work purposes, it tells me that my phone number has been used too many times for some odd reason.

  • Mildly Infuriating @lemmy.world

YouTube won't let me search for music by musician unless I remove the word "naked" from her name

  • I mean, that was kinda assumed when the mainline series was discontinued.

  • Good. As a regular blood donor, all they do is mooch off taxpayer dollars and cost our healthcare system money it can save on free donations from Canadian Blood Services.

People need to be taught the dangers of these private clinics, and how despite paying you, they cost our society more than they're worth and just lead us more into private healthcare.

  • >"Controversial take"

    >Least controversial take ever

Yep, sounds about right for controversial takes on the internet.

Here's a controversial take: Shadow the Hedgehog is one of the best games in the Sonic franchise.

  • That first point I think really helps a lot on it's own. I grew up poor (and still am pretty poor admittedly), and I was told to eat pretty much everything on my plate. Eating rice? Gotta eat every last grain. Mother burnt the frozen pizza rock solid? Had to eat it. Food you don't like was for supper? You're not leaving that table until you finish it.

While my parents would use the "kids in Africa" line, something that arguably hit me more was my Nana comparing things to our ancestors during the Depression.

I'll see what I can do about containers next time around. I might also ask them about how to give away leftovers to people near the nearby shelter.

  • LoseIt: Lose the Fat @discuss.tchncs.de

How do I balance out my diet with preventing food waste?
