  • Earth's first

    The 302 would like a word šŸ˜…

That doesn't count! It didn't work!

It did, for very short periods of time. And from that, we got the epic scene where they opened a window through a ship's shield for a Death Star run shot at Anubis.

    Well the 303 worked!

Sure, with a salvage hyperdrive from an Al'kesh. At least until that broke down and they had to upend an entire planet's beliefs to get home. The original hyperdrive had the same problem as the one from the 302. And the working one came from the Asgard.

Idk. I just couldn't get over the captain doing his best James Carrey Kirk impression.

    Earth: Give us things!

    Asgard: lol no

    Earth: Give us things!

Asgard: Give back the things you stole!

Earth: sudo We saved your skinny butts from the Replicators! Give us thing!

    Asgard: Okay.

Asgard: Aight imma head out. We'll leave the light on for you.

  • Are you conflating self-signed and untrusted?

Self-signed is fine if you have a trusted root deployed across your environment.

  • Thanks, but the most recent post was 2 months ago.

  • How can I get into TOS?

TOS and Abrams content is the only thing I haven't done yet.

Got a good watch list for the critical stuff?

  • Except in Discovery. It works across lightyears in the first episode.

  • Me: Owns a variety of sizes of containers

Also me: Only uses 2 of the sizes, and never has a clean one when I need it

  • I would like to subscribe to your Historical Trivia newsletter.

  • BC-304. The Prometheus was so ugly in comparison.

Shout-out to the basic cable show that was giving us Hollywood-level visual effects effects as early as 2004.

Atlantis gets visual effects Emmy nomination

The Atlantis Effect: An Interview With Mark Breakspear

GW: Visually, which is your favorite episode of Atlantis so far?

MB: ā€œThe Eye.ā€ The Rainmaker team created their own CG software to create the stormy water for the ocean. The level of detail and control has never been seen in TV effects before. Dan and Jose at Rainmaker pulled out all the stops and created mind-blowing shots. I think we went about 3.5 times over budget on that one — but you can’t get away with crap. You guys can spot that a mile away, and nothing kills a show quicker than cheap looking effects.

  • Edit to add: This is a sad justification to be involved in ending human life, regardless of merit.

It's especially peanuts when you consider that the VA won't have to take care of the veterans either. In the long-term, that's where most of the funding actually goes after you put boots on the ground.

    Edit to add:

The costs of caring for post-9/11 war vets will reach between $2.2 and $2.5 trillion by 2050 — most of which has not yet been paid.

    https://watson.brown.edu/costsofwar/costs/economic/budget/veterans

That is roughly 1/3 of the total estimated past/future costs of the wars.

  • The megathread seems like the best approach. You can make it text-only and put all the article links in the post. That way all the traffic doesn't get given to the first link to get submitted.

  • What extensions are you using?

Have you tried in a private window with extensions disabled?

Have you tried a different browser?

  • No, but I do pay for convenience and for an ad-free listening experience.

Isn't that one of the main justifications people give for piracy? That if it were affordable and convenient, people would just pay?

  • If a tree falls in the forest, and no one is around to hear it...

  • That isn't the purpose of the new API. Apps can already prevent screenshots by using FLAG_SECURE.

The purpose is to move away from the resource- and privacy-invasive ways that apps implement screenshot detection today, such as through monitoring the directory in which screenshots are saved. The new functionality will require a permission and will no longer require the apps to have access to the screenshots themselves.
