I really enjoyed it ... at first I saw it like you described ... but then I started it watching it like listening to a podcast of events retold by the cast members ... the imagery was there just to help your imagination.
Everyone south of Toronto (not including the actual city), most of everyone around the St Lawrence River in Quebec and all of Alberta still love America, no matter who's leading it.
It's the strangest thing ... I've got friends and family in rural southern Ontario in Haldimand County who might as well be from the southern states, friends in Quebec who barely speak English but love to vacation in Florida and Albertans who are just plain ol racist asshats that fall right into the MAGA cult ..... everywhere else and you'll find most northern Canadians who live away from everything just absolutely don't like Americans.
So ... does this mean there are other Sci-Fi franchises known as ....

My parents lived through famine in the 1950s in northern Ontario ... in Canada! They were born and raised in the wilderness and lived the first 20 years of their lives on their own without any government support, participation or inclusion. They were also survivors of the residential school system as children, so they survived IN SPITE of what the government tried to do to them.
So as children, whenever we would ever think of throwing away any edible food ... mom and dad would scold us and lecture us on the fact that they and their parents had to starve at one point in their lives.
I'm middle aged now, my parents are gone but I'll always remember their words and whenever I see any amount of food that might be thrown away, I do my best to save it, share it, preserve it ... or at the very least, give it to dogs, animals or crumble it up for birds to eat.
They taught me that one of the greatest sins that any person can perform is to waste food or deny it from someone else that might need it or use it.
Yeah, I'm saving my 5,000 gallons of diesel fuel to power my 20 ton Doof Wagon with massive sound equipment and flame throwing guitar. That should be enough fuel to intimidate anyone that comes near my compound for about a week.
