Remember that Subnautica time capsules are still being approved, and need your help to upvote the good ones
  • Yeah, I agree. I don't like it when you have to go out to a 3rd party site just to find that kind of relevant information. Though I realize they're trying to prevent spoilers (both in the screenshots and in the items you can include).

If it makes you feel any better, since such a small % of them get approved, yours probably wouldn't have been seen anyways. Hope that more of them can get voted on and approved :)

  • Remember that Subnautica time capsules are still being approved, and need your help to upvote the good ones

If you look at that site, time capsules are coming in every few minutes. Unknown Worlds manually approves them, and it's a slow process. But I figure more people upvoting them can't hurt. Plus you get to view some beautiful screenshots and messages. Most time capsules just sit there and get zero upvotes. So be the change you want to see in the world!

According to Unknown Worlds community manager a few months back (pretty sure it was @Tuna@lemmy.world), the following items are banned from time capsules:

    • PowerCell
    • Battery
    • Propulsion Cannon
    • Hatching Enzymes
    • Enzyme Cure Ball
    • ALL Seamoth upgrades
    • The following Prawn Suit Upgrades: Depth 1 & 2, Jump Jet, Drill Arm, Grapple Arm, Thermal Reactor
    • The following Cyclops Upgrades: Depth 3, Thermal Reactor, Fire Suppression, Shield
    • Sea Crown Seed
    • ALL of the alien tablets
    • Ion PowerCell
    • Ion Battery (can be smuggled inside tools but not placed individually)
    • Kyanite

Also note that no time capsules showing dead creatures get approved.

(I know all this info is pinned on the Subnautica subreddit, but I figured it's good to have it here too since not all Lemmy users are on Reddit. Sorry if I'm stepping on any toes!)

Bots are better than humans at cracking ‘Are you a robot?’ Captcha tests, study finds
  • I've been having the same problem even on my home IP. It only happens when I'm using Firefox though. If I use Chrome, and oddly enough change my IP by routing through my rented VPS and pass a few captchas then Google will eventually start to trust Firefox from my home IP. It's bizarre and Google is really starting to piss me off because I'm wasting so much time on this shit.

What's your go to video player to watch 4k hdr content on hdr screens?
  • Nvidia Shield plugged into my TV running Jellyfin. Occasionally if I get playback issues I'll open with an external player like Just Player, Vimu, VLC, etc.

Jellyfin used to be pretty rough with playback, especially if you watch with subtitles, but in recent months I've rarely had playback issues.

On PC I use mpc/madvr, but usually just to check a video file, not to watch a whole movie. I save that for the TV.

  • What is an item below 100 bucks that everyone should own?
  • I hired an electrician to rewire an outlet under my sink so that the switch above the sink can control only one of the two plugs. When he was done, I used the outlet tester and found that he hadn't properly connected the ground wire. I wasn't planning on connecting an appliance that needed grounding, but I think every outlet in the house should be grounded anyways as a matter of course. Got him to fix it before he left. That $9 I spent 7 years ago paid off as far as I'm concerned.

  • Incandescent light bulbs are officially banned in the U.S.
  • I have a garage door opener and I guess it's just not shielded well enough because LED light bulbs interfere with the signal from my remote, just one example. I would much rather buy new incandescent bulbs every few years than replace the opener outright.

  • Hard times
  • I can't even blame you that much when places like Costco do their damnedest to get everyone in the self checkout line. If you're not paying attention it'd be easy to roll through there with stuff that doesn't really work well for self checkout.

  • Hard times
  • Even when Susan is taking a huge cart through, a single queue for multiple service providers (self checkout) is always going to be theoretically more efficient than multiple queues - one per provider (one line for each cashier). The best of both worlds are places that have a single area to corral you into line, and a row of cashiers where you can go to the first available.

  • Hard times
  • Yeah I really hate it when they give you self checkout but make everything function way way worse than what the cashier uses. I've never even considered shoplifting before but I've come pretty close on machines that refuse to scan because they're stuck on something 5 items ago when I'm moving quickly. Especially if it still beeps when I scan new items but refuses to actually scan it because it's hung up on something that it was slow to get the weight of -- really throws me off. It's not my job to baby your machine for you. I'm not getting paid for it. Just let me scan my shit and go.

What's your favorite game you never hear anybody talk about?
  • That was one of the coolest games I've ever played. I still remember some random guy getting me into a private lobby and step by step teaching me how to K-Style and butterfly which just opened up an entire world of gameplay.

  • My Reddit Account got banned for the dumbest reason.
  • The other thing is that they typically ban you for life, which is harsher even than our legal system. As a society we've agreed that it's possible to pay your debt to society, but private companies have no obligation to see things that way. It's like we've taken rules to deal with trolls in an old school Counter Strike server and tried to extend them to something that resembles a corporatocracy. It's a lot different and more meaningful to get banned from service provided by a monopolistic company compared to getting banned from your local bar, for example, when you can just go across town to the other one.
