  • Interesting article, thanks, although I don't know what the page is doing to make Firefox offer to kill it. Maybe it's something to do with the 1455 comments.

  • The commands are notoriously poorly named. The underlying tech is cool and sensible, the text interface isn't.

  • I thought another reason was to avoid blasting everyone* you pass with your phone's maximum power signal while trying to reconnect.

Edit: the problem being interference, not any health effects. I read that the effectively one-way signals from the sky worked somewhat like a jammer.

  • They might get some more uptake if they had some examples or a more concise explanation than just linking to the RFC (aside from the tutorial in French).

  • I've been impatiently waiting for this to happen for years. I want to see red squirrels! And the pine martens themselves are also great.

  • The article mentions that "Chrome [has a] more restrictive Manifest 3 plugin API", but doesn't go into any examples, when this one is the main one (and why Google brought in manifest v3 at all).

  • Self-fulfilling nominative determinism right there.

  • I forgot about this version of the meme format - good to get some variety.

  • It's hard! Once you've missed a few and your rhythm is out you're probably done for. I'm stuck on level three - it's pretty difficult as you don't have any feedback on when you miss once they're past the light. I'm sticking with it, though - clearly you have a story to tell...

  • “Quest was originally designed as a demonstration project to prove (carbon capture) technology and overall has met or exceeded our expectations,” said Shell

So they knew it wouldn't work, but they got the government to subsidise it at least.

  • Sorry, I was just joking; it's clearly a typo and I don't think anyone misunderstood (or maybe even noticed).

  • unvaluable

You've edited this post and left this in (or added it!?) so I suppose you mean it!

  • Apparently UK universities need to teach how directories work to first year Computer Science students. They've grown up with polished, closed devices and many only know apps and the basics of using the internet.

  • The widow of Alexei Navalny, Yulia Navalnaya, has had her X account restored after it was briefly suspended for unknown reasons.

This seems a misleading headline, unless what I've quoted was edited in. I'm no fan of Musk, but it could be something like a load of people (or bots) reported the account and an automated system put it into review.

  • I thought this was going to be a version of the penguin of doom copypasta.

  • I hadn't heard of it, but it looks like it wouldn't have much use outside of stalking or doxing.

  • I only do the cryptics myself - I like that you can be confident you have the right answer without waiting for the crossers to check your guess.

  • I assume it's just an example of how to create new topical words since it's a lot easier to name an album than to get a word well-known enough to be eligible for the dictionary.

The artists all seem to be big names so I assume it's their popularity rather than any history of quirky album names that's decided the list.

  • There's a few other redundant versions, like how they say "horse-back riding". Why not bikeseat riding or plane cockpit flying?
