  • I agree with the other two replies, while this is a noble endeavor, it will affect participation and growth of the community negatively. Especially if it is a strict requirement.

I think it will lead also lead to low quality "alt-text" as people just enter "stuff" that doesn't really help any one.

I think waiting 48 hours to remove posts will also have a negative impact as it cuts off ongoing discussions in comments. I know it would annoy the hell out of me if I was discussing something with another user and our discussion disappeared. If it is going to be required, it should be required to post initially, (if that's possible in lemmy)

What is the driver of this change? Are you getting complaints of missing text or requests to add it? How many users rely on it?

I do like the idea of sending a reminder. "Hey we noticed your post is missing alt-text, it is strongly encouraged to help less fortunate users". But just leave it at that.

Overall I feel that restricting user engagement is generally a bad thing when the community relies on said engagement for content. It's necessity should weighed carefully.

  • Great that is what I thought.

So it provides, absolutely no control over those making decisions abusing that power power for personal gain. In fact even less so though capitalism...

  • A good run? A few years?

If propaganda is your concern, communism relies on complete altruism of EVERYONE just to get off the ground. And then it is a free for all to who grabs power first and turns into a dictatorship...

And discussions comparing it other systems are useless, because people end up comparing a real system to the ideal theory of communism. Because it's never worked.

  • And communism isn't? It's much worse in fact, as it provides zero control. There's a reason every attempt at communism so far has turned into a dictatorship before it even got started.

Note, in no way am I saying capitalism is good.

The real issue no system is capable of controlling human greed long term...

  • Not really at its core, the problem, is like most things humans touch, is extremism and twisting it into an excuse to be an evil piece of shit.

Same with communism, it doesn't limit free speech or create dictatorships. It's just every attempt at it so far as ended up there

The overall issue with every system so far. Is they've been completely incapable of keeping the worst humans from rising to the top and ultimately destroying the system.

  • Enjoy it! I was lucky to have 10+ years at a job I loved. Great coworkers, awesome boss, reasonable expectations.

Then the VP left. Within two years everything went to complete shit (except the coworkers although they either left or retreated into being bots at work)

    Nothing last :/
